I havnt completed and havnt played it for awhile but New Vegas is better imho.
Just wish the fallouts had more variance in scenery its bleak which is what the game is all about I suppose.
Either way good luck & have fun with your choice!
but there is not very much continuity between them other than the shared universe, so you wont really run into anything relating to FO3 if you go for NV.
both games, on the other hand, draw quite a bit from the original Fallout and Fallout 2, so lore-wise FO1 and FO2 are more important than FO3.
and i'd recommend starting with FO1 and FO2 actually, if you feel so inclined.
FO3 even strays from the original lore in ways that i do not enjoy, while NV is more true to the lore and RPG aspect of the games.
i like all of them though, including FO4.
but if you have to choose only one i would pick NV.
it is in fact one of my favorite games ever, for what that is worth.
They're cheap enough, get both. /shrug
(on the other hand, they're both kind of rickety on modern systems. Might have to find guides on how to get them working right on Win10 & 11.)
But Fallout 3 does have a few aspects to it that I wish New Vegas had but doesn't.
Likewise, I'm sure there's mods that people have made by now to make those basic adjustments.
The perk Grim Reaper's Sprint got nerfed in New Vegas.
Although to be fair, it was pretty overpowered in Fallout 3.
Fallout 3 had Point Lookout as an expansion DLC, which I absolutely loved.
I'd compare it to Shivering Isles for Oblivion for relative size and enjoyment.
and while I know New Vegas DOES have DLC, I...never played through them. Even though I now have them. Just haven't gotten to that yet.
I didn't get to the New Vegas DLC because my work life kicked up around that time and I had to quit playing after I beat the game. Rebought it on Steam years later along with Fallout 3 to replay and remake my characters at some point.
MOST of my games library is exactly that:
Older RPG games that I've already played on consoles which I would like to eventually replay to maximum completion for myself for save files and character designs.
Do you want to be fighting inside the white house? Do you want to fight next to DC monuments? Do you want to explore subway stations?
Or do you want to explore a brown desert?
Anyways, I like NV story more.
