Do "grounded" and "punished" mean the same thing?
Do these words mean the same thing or do they have like a small difference? 🤔

Would it the same saying "Umbreon, you get punished 😡" and "Umbreon, you get grounded 😡"?

Punished could be any kind of punishment: from spanking to grounding.

Grounding means you're not allowed to leave a certain area (typically your room or house, after all your fun stuff has been removed and locked away) for a specified duration, from days to weeks or even longer. Sometimes comes with other caveats like: you must study the whole time.

grounded implies parents were involved, or parental figures were punishing child figures (like the supreme court to all the lower courts everywhere.) it is in theory earned, even if the recipient doesn't acknowledge this.

punishment happens for no particular reason to just about anyone, and could be just or unjust depending on context. it implies someone broke a rule, whether that rule was imaginary or not.

grounded hasn't really meant physically exclusive positioning in a while, as most people don't liek going outside these days. it's more comon for a parent to take devices away in a modern grounding.

Being grounded is a certain kind of punishment. It is like being on house arrest, except imposed by a child's parents instead of a government. You may also be confined to your room and lose certain household privileges, such as being able to see friends, watch television or play video games. The point is you basically can't do what you want to have fun.

Being punished is a bit different. Being grounded is a form of being punished, but it could also mean refer to other punishments like being sent to the corner for a time-out, up to bed without supper or being spanked. Granted, somebody is unlikely to tell you they are being punished while they are being spanked, but still.

Nah, not the same thing.
Groundment is just one form of punishment. Punishment can come in many different forms.

Ah so grounded is used also for phones... Interesting 🤔

grounded means you're punished, but punished doesn't necessarily means you're grounded

Grounded? You could fly?

Depending on the context, grounded *could* mean being prevented from flying due to a punishment, provided you were in a field where you flew such aircraft.

The term 'grounded' as a punishment issued by parents isn't really used in Australia from my knowledge, usually the punishment and its consequences are specified rather than just being a blanket and assumed coverage that 'grounded' would entail. Though this is my experience so it is not definitive or broad.

Punish is more formal. A grounding is a punishment for kids.

"Umbreon, I will punish you for this." This actually sounds too dramatic. You'd usually say the specific penalty.
"Umbreon, you are grounded." Wouldn't be used towards an adult if the speaker wants to convey seriousness, otherwise it's normal.

I agree w this as well. Punishment is more broad, it's the infliction of some kind of pain or loss and can be done in many ways, while "getting grounded" is more specific, where the child(s) is confined to their room. Also, "to be grounded" can also mean:

1. Of or pertaining to an electrical conductor which is connected to earth; earthed.
2. Not allowed to fly.

The "Earthed" one can also be used in, "you need to come back to Earth and stay grounded", which is a way in how ppl say that "you're too high in the clouds" type of thing, and be "in the moment".

Grounded means you're stuck somewhere. Punished can mean any type of punishment

Ah, alright, this explains it better...

You have to be grounded before you can be punished.

Like a plane needs to be on the ground, before you can hit it with a stick.
