Roaches
Flies?
Your best "bang for you buck" protein source would be combining some sort of lentils/beans with some grains/dairy so you get a complete amino acid profile, and you get carbs too.
Otherwise plain chicken breast depending on where your live, tuna in water(buy in bulk) but the cheapest will always be from a vegetarian source.

Legumes

Quinoa is one of the leguminous plants, is an easy cheap one ... a bit like rice, I mix it 50/50 with rice and cook it in my rice cooker. It's a complete protein, which means it contain all 9 essential amino acids that a person needs.

Also to name a few others ... soybeans, buckwheat, spirulina, chia seeds, hemp seeds... each contain all nine essential amino acids and are called "complete proteins"

I would say the cheapest of them, the easiest to cook, and enjoy, are lentils. Indian cooking versions.

You're welcome my friend, enjoy your spectacular carefree glowing health :KneelingBow:
Rice and lentils would be a solid cheap complimentary veg protein combo. Lentils are among the highest protein concentration of the legumes (next to soy beans). Lentils are also easy to cook and gentler on your digestion than other beans.

The cheapest would have to be some kind of low grade whey protein powder, but those will likely have lots of heavy metals so... Stick with the rice and beany.

The trick is to buy the unflavoured, basic stuff and add fruit or something yourself.
All these "Gold Standard" premium quality is overhyped bs.
Probably pork or chicken. The lectins in beans (eg chickpeas) render the protein less bioavailable and harder on the digestive tract, despite them being relatively cheap.

That's why you soak them in water for several hours and then boil them while cooking.
Don't worry about bioavailablity.
eggs, fish, soy, milk, beans

wheat has a surprising amount, so pasta is actually not bad.
