What is your opinion on YouTube disabling " dislikes "?
What is your opinion on YouTube disabling " dislikes "?

I think the purpose of being able to hit like and dislike is somewhat dismissed if one is not able to see the dislikes on videos.

Also, what is your opinion on some channels, especially larger news agencies, disabling the comment function overall ?

I don't want to get started about the whole " freedom of speech " discussion as YouTube is a private company and each channel owner can of course make this decision very individually.
HOWEVER, for me its kind of an indication of " bad practice " if one disables the comment function completely as well as YouTube disabling " dislikes " completely.

What is so bad about people seeing how often a video was dislike in order to compare it with the likes ?

It was largely done to shelter corporate-backed handpicked content creators so-called who make ♥♥♥♥♥♥ content and are unable to handle criticism due to being, like most corporatists, fascists. Whether it's a legacy media outlet, some missing link publication, or some yuppie influencer is irrelevant.

YouTube will die at some point regardless. It is inevitable. And once again, these establishment goons missed the boat for the next generation of tech. And they will continue to do so, until they do what is necessary for the good of mankind and stand aside.

What is your opinion on YouTube disabling " dislikes "?...

You mean, not when it was disabled because people were trolling music videos and innocent people trolls just wanted to hate on, but when it was disabled after AAA game companies like Activision, Blizzard, E.A., etc and big movie outfits like Paramount/Universal/Sony started getting nasty bad reviews and a flood of "Dislikes" due to producing predatory products or trying to force feed the public expensive crappy entertainment?

They didn't quasi-remove "Dislikes" to protect innocent people from harassment and unfair practices. They removed them to protect.. money.

I miss Dislikes, not because they were meaningful, but because of the pile-on hype for big name product trailers in gaming and movies and the joy of watching producers backpedal and squirm.

Yeah my thoughts as well.

Steam does not show dislikes either, how is nobody complaining and making posts over it? :candywhat:

I think some ppl are overreacting too much over it... Most ppl did not even use them to begin with and most of those who used them, only used them as a hate tool when someone does something that others do not like rather than actually using it to show that they dislike the video itself...

Also that when ppl do not like the video, they just move on, they will not waste any second on a video that they do not like, dislikes are just inaccurate metrics...

I just cannot take seriously the ppl complaining about YouTube dislikes but still use the website even though they are not happy with It, before anybody mentions the addons to bring back dislikes, let me break it to you but most ppl do not use it (the download number shown on Chrome and Firefox websites is way lower than the ppl using YouTube daily...)

Proving even more that most ppl do not rly care if they do not have dislikes...

There is a reason why in all social media do not have dislikes, becuase ppl do not know how to behave properly online and also becuase ppl do not use them a lot... :steambored:

EmpLemon said all that needs be said about it:
https://youtu.be/fdGbOT8NXnE

TLDW: Dislikes are used as a form of collective communication from the audience to the content creator, and to other users. A significantly lower like to dislike ratio is a message to both the content creator and to other possibly less informed viewers that the video is likely bad or fundamentally wrong in some way. YouTube, by removing this, is making it harder for this communication to occur

Of course this video was released before dislikes were actually removed, so there was a small amount of speculation on Emp's side. While the content creator can still see dislikes, other users aren't able to (even Return YouTube Dislike isn't perfect), which can make it harder for someone to determine if a video is a scam or not

It also 100% only happened because YouTube themselves got absolutely bombed with dislikes in one of their YouTube Rewind videos lol

It was a retarded decision but at least there's an extension out there that restores them.

Then what is the point of likes? We can just look at the number of views, right?
And it's not like everyone hitting the like button actually likes a thing. They could be artificially boosting the channel, etc. Two sides to the coin.

If you ask me, YouTUbe is a dead platform/tool.

YouTube has been censoring content, removing dislikes and so on. Its just a matter of time until another video portal with less restrictions (somewhere located outside of the western world) will take over.

Dislikes are not disabled. You just can't see how many dislikes there are. If you dislike a video YouTube pops up a message window saying the author of the video will be informed.

At least that's what happens to me.

It was intentional from Google's management, because people kept downvoting woke content.

Now, we have to sit through garbage and ads, before we find out its woke.

It was a moment of ironic history.

The sensitive types, of whom claimed to despise corporations, and corporate control of public perception, all fell radio silent when the change was introduced.

It's a reminder; that the post-modernists who claim to care about human rights, are frauds. That's why they're all depressed, they've got no conviction, they've got no PASSION! None! They're soulless, they're empty, they've got nothing! Not even their parents stand by them!!!

I found the change to be most wise for the company, but a plight for the average person.
