I would assume if that is the case generally it is because people are not reading enough to exercise their brains in fictional / visual styles and have not been tested enough in the education system on problem solving.
Not creating or challenging themselves from a young age or even as they age.
I blame Simon Cowell who spent years crapping on people having a go at stuff.
