I'm kind of excited about the possibility of USPS closing
Imagine how much less junk mail we'll have if they have to UPS/FedEx it at dollars a pop instead of like fifty cents or whatever a stamp costs now.

We thought that back in the day before the internet had ads too, and now there are more ads online than on your basic cable television.

Dang I thought they were critical to "securely" gather the ballot drop boxes...
Yea i'm not paying an extra 20 dollar fee to pay my rent online. Cause the landlord just sent a letter out saying to pay your rent online is now a 20 dollar fee. When before all i had to do was send a money order in the mail and it was free.

He don't live in the same city as me i live in baltimore and he lives down in flordia. So i can't send pennies. You know what the shipping fee will be for 1,300,000 pennies. Around 300 to 400 dollars.

Well he is quick to fix major problems like broken pipes. But i had a baseboard that came unglued and it has yet to be fixed. Might take him to court for it.

The USPS isn't closing.

It is, however, restructuring and closing some Post Offices and slashing some jobs in an effort to trim its operating budget. (Stamp Collectors will be rushing to those closing offices to get letters stamped with that offices postage stampy thingie, since each Post Office has it's own custom stampy stamp whatsits... If an office is near you and closing, drop off some envelopes to be mailed from there and they'll get stamped. Hold on to them for about 100 years, and maybe they'll be worth more than the envelope and postage stamp cost you...)

The USPS is a Constitutionally Mandated Federal service, even with partial privatization. It's also part of "Critical Infrastructure" and falls under DHS mandates.

A national postal system is still a vital part of any nation's services. Private carriers shouldn't be considered as suitable replacements.

The USPS has reams of junk mail, daily, in order to offset costs... It's a prime cash-cow, I think. IMO, the USPS should fully fall within the formal budget/Federal Branches. But... whatever - Nobody asked me. :)

I mean, it's still a possibility.

Like, suppose every USPS building gets hit by a tiny meteoroid that manages to damage only that building. I'm pretty sure they would close then.
USPS isn't even government owned any more. That is why their website has .com and not .gov.

Is junk mail not just flyers that come with newspapers? The newspapers/advertizing papers have their own delivery guys.

They still make newspapers?

I'm being a little generous with the word. I mean papers that are mostly flyers with maybe a news bit mixed in here or there.

Sometimes there's good coupons in there so they aren't entirely useless.

IMO when there is something essential and your options you have to do it are only for-profit corporations there needs to be a publicly-funded competitor. Even if nobody uses it it will prevent companies from being too anti-consumer unless they want their customers to take their business elsewhere; the mail is something that definately fits into that category.
