Who?
Just becuase is 👉👌 is no reason to jush not make improvements...
Like, ok, do the 👉👌 all you want but provide an interesting story, provide some good and interesting characters...
And the basketball ball size breasts, I never understood why ppl like them either... Is just too repetitive I do not know how ppl are not tired at this point, it was funny at the beggining but nowadays... Meh...
This type of "joke" or "cliché" is pretty common on anime, but on yuri is just that they push way too much...
As I said lot of times, anime (all genres) have a problem with female characters, they are mostly mediocre or terrible...
And yes, I am very aware I am not the target audience but well, just sharing opinion, I tried to get into Yuri but nothing rly convinced me so I stayed with yaoi until I got bored from that too...
I do love me some action... Consider me sold.
Ya know... thats fair.
Counter Argument: Who comes to a romance for men? Not gonna pretend people like that dont exist, and I aint saying I have anything against them, but aside from Yaoi Enjoyers (mortal enemies), I cant think of a time most people come to romance for the men (I am open to being wrong on this however, and if you do, no issues there, just dont see it myself personally.)
And to be completely generous, yeah, a lot of Yuri is quite... *ahem* spicy, no denying, after all, Yuri is mainly utilized to categorize erotic lesbian relationships.
Personally, whilst a lot of them do go that route, I cant lie, its kept me endeared almost every time. Rarely can think of a time I got too bored reading one unless a whole lotta nothing happened in them. Maybe this is due to lurking the funny bat wings website when I was younger... ah the days...
If you truly want more well crafted Yuri stories, try Shoujo Ai. Its Yuri, but a lot less erotic, and mainly focusing on the actual relationship itself, rather than the spicier elements. A tragic story ive read that ive quite enjoyed is one titled: The Summer You Were There. Would absolutely recommend, and honestly, would make for a good anime funnily enough. Just has the right level of poetic and tragic moments, all of which are handled well. Although to be fair, this is kind of an outlier.
I really out here pouring my heart over pages... someone clock me in...
Sometimes you gotta start easy before you go hard. First impressions do mean a lot for tastes, how'd you think I got here?
But yeah... Shoujo Ai would more than likely be a better place to go for some of these stories honestly.
More seriously though, the only thing I can think of at the moment is Iono-sama Fanatics[en.wikipedia.org]. Basically a harem story, except literally a devout harem where the queen has a whimsically airy attitude.
Wouldn't make for a very long show since it's only two compiled volumes long, and I only ever read the first 'cause the English localizer went out of business before publishing the second, but I suppose it could translate well into a movie at least.
Technically Yuri is the japanese word for Lily. This is important to note not only because sometimes it might be referring to the flower, but also because Japan shares the trend of naming girls after flowers so some people are named Yuri too.
However, in slang it has strong connotations of lesbianism, so yeah, that is the gist of it. Of course, in English we already have the word lesbian, so we use the word yuri as a loanword to refer to anime/manga style lesbianism. Often refers to the harder core stuff too. The more romantic stuff is more sometimes called shoujo ai (girl's love) instead.
If keeping that distinction in mind, Iono-sama is more shoujo-ai than Yuri, although many people don't keep that distinction in mind.
No, but being spicy is not the problem... Hell, yaoi also is, it has its things too 😳
Spicy is what makes both yuri and yaoi special, you know, without the spicy is just a Shoujo... V:
What I am saying is that is more of a lack of balance, like ok, do the 👉👌, I do not mind seeing the 👉👌but do not make the entire episode just 👉👌,among the other issues such as boring characters or characters with extremly overreacted "body features" and using the same joke too much...
Even Doraemon does not repeat THAT much the 😳😳 joke with the shower...
Lets not even start with Yaoi hands >:(
But being serious, I do get it. They tend to play out awfully similarly. Maybe im simpleminded (or likely I just have some things im willing to look past as I get way too excited for it), so I rarely find myself thinking too much about those.
But sadly, every genre seems to have its fair share of common issues. I wonder where the standard will go from here? Status Quo or will we finally get more well crafted stuff here and there? Maybe a bit more tragedy yuris are in order. ♥♥♥♥ hurts but it works tbh.
Huh? You do not like the 👉👌 hands? 😳
I do think standarts will go higher as time move on 🤷♀️
Murcielago is even drawn in a cinematic manner.
the 3-page wordless villain backstory at the finale of the "Sakura of Oblivion" arc (chapter 57) is one of my favorite examples of visual storytelling ever, especially since it doesnt introduce the villain, it just gives a final insight into his background before the arc ends.
the next 2-page transition back to present story is absolutely cinematic as well, and stylized in a very impressive manner.
pretty much every new arc opens with what looks like a movie poster too.
