I was going to go with 1970-1980-1990 and so on, but "Pong" came out in '72, so I just stuck with it. (And now that I think of it, my "Galaga" example was also 81. I probably just should have gone with 91, 2001, etc. Oh well.)
Mostly I would say you were off with the suggestion that the 70s were about the same as the 80s for gaming. The rest is in line with my examples.
as a strategy gamer.. almost ALL the good games started around 1990... peaked around 1995-2000. and by 2005 strategy was basicly dead..
anything released post 2005 to me is "more of the same.. that not fills that desire for good games..."
even rts.. give me morrowind or neverwinter nights over any more modern rpg anytime..
they somehow not hit that spot
Then you aren't playing the right games if you think anything after 2005 is not that good.
Also, Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights aren't RTS games.
70s : pong - space invaders
80s : packman - SimCity
90s : Civilizations 1 - Age of Empires2
00s : Red Alert 2 - anno 1404
10s : Minecraft - Tropico 6
(I had to use wiki to even find ANYTHING playable 2009 and beyond.. and these were basicly the only titles I recognised in a whole list of crap)
where in the 90s.. it's like 90% of all titles I know and owned.
Perhaps you're far too picky. Open your mind a little.
I made a typo there in regards of morrowind.
I am playing the right games.
-> games now are made for dirty causuals and multiplatform.
games used to be made for pc nerd (aka chessclubtypes) the same type that do chess, d&d, magic the gathering back in the 90s.. before it became mainstream.. who usually also are mensa members.. those kind of geeks..
ESPECIALLY strategy games..
there just have FAR fewer strategy releases since 2005.. and those that have.. are just far lower in quality as they cater to a different audient.
You could try playing something that isn't a strategy game. Maybe you'd like a few other genres of high quality games. I could list a few from other genres if you want.
Warcraft II
Warcraft III
Tiberian Sun
Red alert 2
Age of Empires 2
Rise of Legends
Empire Earth
Civilization III
Call to Power 1
Anno 1709
Settlers 3
Total Annihilation
those are some of the best TBS and RTS ever.. notice what they have in common all are late 90s/very early 00s games.
there used to release a new strategy series every YEAR back than.. now thats 0
there used to release at least 5 new games in excisting series per year back than.. than thats 1 or 2
and for those 1 or 2 : they are almost always either sequals that are much worse than those older versions... or remakes.
(often remakes that somehow are made worse that the original too)
I like strategy, PERIOD.
That's boring. Your own fault for not playing anything else when you don't care to broaden your horizons.
That's why I said they should broaden their horizons. This is like thinking Metallica is the only good metal band of the 80's.
I actually hated metellica.. I rarely ever listed any pop music at all.
I only listen christian music.. and even amongst those I am selective.. with most of the bigger names on my "nope" list.
I can list likely more classical composers than most though:)
Metallica isn't Pop music. It's Metal.
Why only Christian music?
in short?
"lead us not into temptation"
-your lifestyle opens your heart for spiritual influence.. either that of the Holy Spirit.. or that of deamons..
Music is a powerfull vessel.. beyond lyrics, beyond the style of music.. it is laced with the spiritual artist was open for when that piece was recorded.
when listening music... it opens your heart and soul for the influences IN this music piece.
as we say "music is stronger than praying"
if you surround yourself with silence you are left with your own influences and thoughts (which I usually prefer.. I work best in silence and I regulairly go to a quit place to meditate
restaurants, workplaces, driving, sporting.. all that I do in silence or I evade those places when I can.
if you surround youself with good music.. made by people who are obediant to God.. and deep in His Spirit (so TRUELLY Christian artists.. not just "christian" music.. which is why I have quite a small whitelist of songs I aprove off (often after studuing that persons background, lifestyle, and the lyrics in great detail)
but if the artist has a very sinfull life, or worse yet openly serves the devil those influences are in that song too...
-this is why relatively peacefull "new age"music' often is just as dangerous as many of those "metal" songs... despite the first one sounding at first glance soothing.. and the second one like noise.
-> I don't impose this on others not is it the official standing of my church (though we do only allow the psalms to be sung in my church and even gospelsongs are by many seen as already "to frivol"..
it is something I came to find true from experience and study.
my general dislike for most things "populair" music included.. is ofcourse personal and was always there..
