Games by the decade
A 1970 game compared to a 1980 game is pretty much the same.
A 1980 game compared to a 1990 game is a pretty decent change.
A 1990 game to a 2000 game doesn't even look like the same medium
A 2000 game to a 2010 game is radically different
A 2010 game to a 2020 game is the same. Like, not pretty much the same. Actually the same.

I'll buy it because I enjoy fun games and don't give a damn about the release date.

As someone who mostly play using steam..i might not if..

1. Game need me to register third party account aside steam account.
2. No steam cloud
3. I don't rush myself to play my game. Mostly end up in my steam game wishlist.

I know some people don't like certain developer or company but as long they meet my need i don't really care much with the hype. But it's nice to see community give some clear picture on something. Still if it's great game and meet my need, why not?

Many 2010 to 2030 game is like 2000 game. Lot of indie developers decided to use less graphic intensive and sticked to the core of enjoyment, rather than goldplated shenanigans. People liked it.
Show me a 2010 game that looks as good, plays as well, or is as immersive as Ghost of Tsushima, which released in 2020.

Show me a 2005 game that was even close to Arkham Knight in 2015.

I get what you're saying, but I think you're just a little off.

1970 - 1980 is radically different. Like not even the same reality.
1972 gave us "Pong".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiShX2pTz9A
1982 gave us "Galaga". (Well, 1981 but roll with it.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvjapcHsqXY

1980 - 1990 is also radically different. Massive improvement.
1992 gave us an insane number of timeless classics, so here's one of the most popular titles of that year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI284D4y1q4

1990 - 2000, also an obscenely massive, almost incomprehensible improvement. Technology was moving so fast these first decades of gaming nobody could reasonably keep up.
2002 gave us way too many amazing games too, so here's a popular release of that year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvjFE13ttpY

2000 - 2010, Still a big difference, but I think the gains start to slow down a bit. Again, too many titles to pick one, so a notable title for 2012.

2010 - 2020, this is where I think someone who isn't well versed in video games might have a hard time telling there's a difference. We've officially hit the point of diminishing returns. There's still improvement, but the improvements matter a lot less. Here's God of War from 2022.

You're right. My bad. Here's "Elden Ring" instead.

2030 and beyond, that's it. Graphically, we've hit peak video game. They're basically almost photo-real already, and graphics can't improve beyond that. We'll have to look forward to novel ways to play instead, and other innovations like AI to shake things up.

RDR2 was released in like 2018 or 2019 and it's insanely different from 2010 games

Having played Elden Ring, the only game I can even think of that would compare and came out in 2012 (since we're going by 10 year gaps), was Far Cry 3. Both are open world. Both are pretty non-linear in how you approach the map outside of main areas. Graphically, Elden Ring is vastly superior for obvious reasons.
I'm not a fan of Elden Ring.

I was pointing out how a game from 2018 was being compared to a game from 2022. Different decades, yet, similar technological comparison.

The original post was about 10 year gaps, not 4 year gaps.

And you not being a fan of Elden Ring has zero bearing on the topic at all.
