I believe men instinctively want to roam. We want to explore we want to experience and discover new things. We want to sail the high seas we want to discover lost civilizations we want to feel like magic exists in the world.
But obviously, a lot of us can't do that, Due to money or a dozen other constraints.
So we get stuck in our boring day jobs doing the same repetition over and over and that repetition is what causes the chemical imbalance that leads to depression.
It's also why I feel like Video Games are so popular to males. We can't adventure in real life so we try to get that adventuring fix off video games instead.
Good points I never thought about that. The lack of adventure and also all information being out there so there is way less mystery about practicaly everything :/
For Women: Women.
For Aliens: Predators.
Well, the biggest aggravator for depression, meaning it may exacerbate an existing issue, is social isolation. Or, basically, the lack of meaningful interpersonal social interactions with peers. The interwebz doesn't count, unless you already don't have any.
Social interactions "in real life, as in "real"" help to support us by giving us opportunities for more rational perspectives and points of view. They break us out of the "cycle" of depressive thinking, demanding our attention turn outward so that we experience reality as it is, not as we fear it may be. Going outside is nice, too.
Social media is a problem. It often presents overblown and catastrophic points of view, because that's the point of view that demands to be posted... It is also manipulated past the levels of the most extreme propaganda levels seen in various wars by decidedly unwholesome actors. A good bit is hand-crafted to cause problems and does its damage before it can be taken down.
There's obviously an identity and attention crisis in today's young persons, likely aggravated by helicopter parenting and very poor social skills/interactions.
Plus - Awareness. "The thing exists" so "WebMD exists" therefore I have "the thing." A lot of people have miraculously received meaningful degrees from Google that enable them to diagnose a simple depressive episode to a full blown issue with Chronic Depression coupled with multiple disorders that don't make sense to be all bundled in one person like they were in the bargain bin at Wallmart. Don't worry, they will tell you about it. (When they'd likely be better helped by trying to interact with peers and even their parents in real life than creating a forum thread. Though, all "calls for help" have to be served.)
Overall there can be many causes to it, and highly depends in a person to person basis. Still hopefully humanity as a whole even if slowly might find a way to mitigate those factors, and eventually depression should be far less common.
50 years ago one man can support a family of 4 and even buy house and car.
Now most people can't even buy a home. That's a complete failure.
