Would you play a game that has a monthly subscription fee?
I wouldn't, micro-transactions are ok, but subscriptions not at all for me

Your thoughts?

nah

i played world of warcraft when i was a kid, and that had a monthly fee... but now i only play games on steam

if i pay monthly for a game, any time that I'm not playing the game that month, I feel like I'm wasting money. it's not a good feeling

If the game was THAT good, I would consider it. So in other words, no.

Subscription based games are nothing new.

Would I pay a monthly subscription for an online game that requires server upkeep costs in order to maintain playability?

Sure.

Would I pay a monthly subscription for an offline, singleplayer experience because the company behind the project has a CEO who believes in a playtime-based monetization model?

Allow me to show you to the door, Mr. Zelnich.

No, I rather play cs 1.6

With monthly subscriptions you always have to ask yourself "will I play it? Is it still worth it?" and that kinda sucks. I think what GW2 is doing is a lot better then WoW or other subscription based games and this is coming from someone who played WoW since Burning Crusade.

No. That's why I never played an M.M.O.R.P.G., except for Realm of the Mad God when it allowed guest players. I suppose I could start playing Ragnarok Online since they nixed the subscription fee years ago, but I also lost interest in the meantime. I've only played a few games with online multiplayer, and it was always free online multiplayer. Most notably the Battle for Wesnoth.

If I'm unwilling to pay a subscription fee for an online game with ongoing maintenance costs, then paying one for single player games where the developer's work is all done makes even less sense.

I would rather pay $120 for a game that was made with love and supported to some extent long-term than a $70 game that has today's standards. I would possibly pay more than that if the game's quality reflected this. I would say upwards to $200 is doable if the game is epic. I've spent more than that on microtransactions for some games already, so definitely there is room for other business models.

I have for years.

EVE Online
WoW
ESO
Tabula Rasa
Conan
LotR
Guild Wars
EverQuest
etc. ad nauseum.

no ,

even when I was interested in mmorpg I've never played one game enough to justify paying for a monthly fee.

The only game I pay a subscription for is Uniwar. But it's just an annual sub and it's only $30.

Depends on the game and if there are consistent events and new content.
