Best Open World, Crafting Survival Game?
Hello everybody,
I have a bit of extra money to spend, and I really enjoyed the game Subnautica. The vast map to explore and discover really felt amazing, and having to craft to survive was also great. I was wondering if anyone reccomended a game similar to Subnautica, that had a lot of playability, reliability, large immersive maps, and a strong "must survive" aspect?
Thank you

Dagg, I've just been told by someone that ARK will not run on my mac. Your thoughts?

Well that's a bummer. It's not so much that it won't run on your Mac, it's that the performance that will ensue if you do.

In this video where the specs are like yours, but in Windows, the user is barely getting any frames at those settings.

It really is a fun game, but you won't be able to fully enjoy it with low frames like that. I suggest that you consider upgrading or to build a new PC all together if you don't wish to play with 20+ FPS.

Well, I might have to resort to another game then, becuase I don't have the money to upgrade, and I have no idea what it means to "build" a PC. Do you have any other strong reccomendations along these lines?

take Space Engineers off your list. After the planets update even my PC struggles and mine is 'more PC' than average.

Those are also not bad options. I already have Terraria, but the other two look ok. Another thing I want to mention is the ideal game is DayZ. But, Dayz is only for mac, and it looks terribly optimised. Do you know any games similar to DayZ for mac that you reccomend?

Thanks as well Tux! I'll keep that in mind!

The only other game that comes to mind would be H1Z1. I'm not sure about those two games, both are in early access and they don't look all that entertaining in my opinion.

Hmmm... H1Z1 is also only for mac. Are those the only two?

My bad, thought it was also on Mac.

This one looks promising.

ok, this is tough! So many of these games die in the alpha stages. Well, I'll talk to you later! Thanks again everybody!

then Wurm.

technically its been out for a long time. he is just using the Early Access platform to release to steam is all. He is new to the Steam ecosystem

Having said that, when you say 'die' what specifically do you mean? low player count or when you hit play it doesnt work.

Secondly, does it even matter what status a game is in? if its fun....full stop its done.

That said, I do understand some concerns like Repopulation as a perfect example, that is a good example of an alpha game that went to what I would consider an actual death in that when you hit play you cant play the game and will not be able to for at least a year.

On the other hand a game like 'blockscape' I can still play. its just that the developer stopped working on it but that doesnt affect me because I bought it for that snap shot in time anyway

that game is super fun. I think I have around 600 hours in it. I think the only game I have played more hours on would be Wurm (hours not recorded because I played 2 years before he released on Steam)

Tux, I really agree with your points! What i mean by dead is progress slowly comes to a halt, and the game just stops production, and you end up only having half a game, with bad playability. Other than that, I play a few games that don't update frequently or anything. I'll look more into these games, as it is a difficult decision. Roght now, my strongest want of all these games is The Long Dark! Does anyone havie anything to say about this game?
