60 fps @ 720p , 30 fps @ 1080p. So, what will happen if a resolution between 720p and 1080p is used ?
If a game supports 60 fps @ 720p and 30 fps @ 1080p , what will happen if I use 1280x1024
or 1366x768 . Will I get 60 fps because it is below 1080p or 30 fps because it is above 720p ?

I had no idea.

So, if I use a software like dxtory to lock fps , will it just show less frames or it will stop cpu and gpu from making extra frames ?

Depends on the way the application is set up to run, a good modern programmer will have the game physics running in a seperate thread will the games rendering runs in another thread. As far as application interactions are concerned i have no idea, but in general you cannot stop the GPU from rendering a frame, once a draw call is sent the GPU will draw that frame, regardless of its render target. The only way to make a thread actually stop running is to put it to sleep but is not a safe or stable practice on windows.

So, v-sync is a better idea ?

Depends. Some prefer it on, other prefer it off.
For me, I always turn it off. (truth be told, a lot hates it on)

Hmm ... So, the graphics quality won't change on any resolution.

Think about Dark siders II - DE . It supports 60 fps at 720p but it is capped at 30 fps at 1080p (That's what I remember at the moment) . So, even if you have a pc that can handle it at 1080p on maxed out settings , it doesn't matter . It will still give you 30 fps . So, for games like that how much fps (30 / 60) will I get on a resolution between 720p and 1080p ? Does it depend on the game ?
There's no 30 FPS lock on DSII DE. In fact, it doesn't have a framerate lock at all.

There's a known bug with VSync on DirectX11 where dropping below 60 will keep it locked at 30 until you restart. Try again without VSync and see what happens.

If you still can't get 60, that means your GPU simply isn't strong enough to push 2 megapixels at those settings. 1366x768 is just *slightly* more demanding than 1280x720, and you might see a 2-3 FPS difference.
I've read somewhere that the developers locked the game @ 30 fps on 1080p. Because , they would need to remake some graphical things to add more than 30 fps support @ 1080p. I think it was about the hd texture pack.

A friend of mine has the original version of the game and it is wayyyyy buggy. So, I never bought it and before buying the D edition I checked some reviews about it and found out that after few fast travels , fps drops a lot and it is unplayable until restart. I also found out about the fps lock then. So, I haven't bought it yet. I can't check it.

I liked DS 1 . But the DS 2 is buggy.
