Will Medal of Honor: Allied Assault work on Windows 10?
I was cleaning out the drawers in my office and I found the CDs for the game, expansion packs and all. My PC is on windows 10 now though and Im not sure if the thing will even work since it's such an old game. But if anyone has a clear answer or fixes I want to hear them.

Runs fine on Win10 64-bit just you have to fiddle with aspect ratio because of black lines either side. Follow intructions in this tutorial to fix.

Since Gamespy shutdown there is no ingame browser but there is one here from the MOHAA reborn boys. For Multiplayer.

Nah. I've played MOH:AA on Windows 10, you don't have to edit anything on registry. People still play MOH.

Really? I'm pretty sure it uses Safedisc DRM.

Yeah. I had no problem running it on Windows 10.

The retail discs for Allied Assault have safedisc drm which can cause problems with Windows 10 unless you look into specific work arounds - as some people here have wisely mentioned.

If you are running a retail disc for whatever reason, then its going to have the drm.
In that instance, your best bet probably would be using those kind of tweaks and edited .exe file, no cd patches etc.

Im not sure that Allied Assault is available on Steam at the moment either.
However, for simplicity, you could consider the Gog "warchest" version?
No drm, no registry tweaking, no cracked .exe downloads, and for me at least the in game lobby still actually works great for lan matches!
However I dont know about online. (try medal of honour reborn mod for that).

https://www.gog.com/game/medal_of_honor_allied_assault_war_chest

I have the old retail CDs too, but I still bought the gog warchest version, mainly because
that version does not use the safedisc drm, and works with XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10 from the start.
Its also very cheap - around £7 in english money atm.

I play Allied Assault on windows 10 home machines (64 bit), and the only issue I found was the resolution not supporting widescreen 1920 by default.

But if resolution is an issue, that has a really easy fix I will dig up and post in a moment.

So to sum it all up, I think a really nice version for simplicity and compatability with modern hardware is the medal of honour warchest edition on gog.com - which also includes the dlc needed to make the most of that particular mod as well as stripping out the nasty drm and the issues related.

Also, there is a cool campaign co op mod for allied assault on mod db, did you know that?

For anyone interested, here is a link to the Allied Assault co op mod:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/medal-of-honor-cooperative-gameplay

The download link provided on that page may say that the file has been deleted, though all is not lost!
If that happens there is some text at the end of the notification message that says:
"We recommend you return to the download list and browse the links from there."

So, to proceed, simply use the alternate link from that message:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/medal-of-honor-cooperative-gameplay/downloads

This mod is Lan only, but if anyone wants to look into it further, here are some basic instructions:

Allied Assault Co Op mod.
--------------------------
Instructions for install.
--------------------------

Extract the included zip file to your Allied Assault folder.
When it asks if you want to over write, say yes.
The installation will proceed automatically and complete the process itself.

Additional Notes
--------------------------

All modification to the game files are strictly server side only.

This should mean that it wont affect any of your progress if you are working through the single player campaign because this is in a "seperate box" from multiplayer mode even though they both share some of the same assets.

But you can always back up your game saves to be sure:P

Human players are able to join the hosted LAN match using the traditional in-game server browser method.

When the match is hosted, other human players join the selected map rotation.
Originally designed and scripted for the single player campaign, copies of these maps have been made into multiplayer maps with the evil Nazi AI intact.

The standard difficulty setting will use the same amount of computer controlled enemies that the player encounters during the single player campaign mode.
They are also set to be of equal toughness with identical weapons as found in these scenarios.

Increasing the difficulty increases the number of nazi's encountered and how cunning they are, in addition to their overall toughness in some instances however weapon loadouts remain the same.

That means you wont wander into a small workshop and find a gang of tank engineers equipped with rocket launchers, officers still carry pistols etc so it stays balanced.
Dogs can be made lethal by doing this, so I suggest default difficulty unless all players are familiar with the maps.

If needed, maps can be changed or selected in game with console commands using the " ` " key.

Lastly, if you have all the dlc campaigns (included in warchest edition), you may also play these campigns in co op mode.
But additionally you can select russian player models and loadouts in addition to american, or just american with the standard campaign.

To anyone encountering bugs, or unable to launch the game with that or any other version - take a look here:

Pcgamingwiki, is a great site that catalogues many older games along with fixes and workarounds to common problems as well as listing for example does a title use specific drm, is it widescreen compatable, etc.

https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Medal_of_Honor:_Allied_Assault

There is a fix for widescreen resolutions amongst other things in the video section on that page.
It boils down to adding a few lines of text within the "unnamed solider.cfg" file with a basic text editor like notepad:

Edit unnamedsoldier.cfg

Edit <path-to-game>\main\configs\unnamedsoldier.cfg
Scroll down to the "cvars" section.
Add these lines (adjusting the 'r_customwidth' and 'r_customheight' entries to suit your chosen resolution if necessary):
seta r_customwidth "1920"
seta r_customheight "1080"
seta r_mode "-1"

That will force the resolution for the campaign mode (dont edit the resolution in game after this or you will need to edit the text file again), but you can set everything else to max from the game menu as you desire after making these changes.

If you want the same resolution for regular deathmatch multiplayer, I believe there is a seperate folder in the game directory containing the multiplayer .exe etc.
Because the multiplayer is kind of like its own seperate app to singleplayer, the text resolution changes should also be done in that directory too, using the same method as above.

Unless you are happy with the default options provided by the game.

RENAME mohaa.exe to old and mohaasp.exe to mohaa.exe and start-up You're game

I have a new computer, Alien ware Aurora R8, which obviously runs Windows 10. While I realize this post is nearly a year old, I still have the original CDs for this game, yet I did not see the files mohaa.exe and mohaasp.exe after the game was downloaded from the discs. The only file that looks similar is mohaa which does not have an extension ‘exe’ and is noted only as an application file.

Also went to the YouTube Video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=6&v=ASuf_sP6YGc

which wasn’t much help either.

After downloading the zip file and opening the files to copy and paste to my game files, as directed in the video, my game opened and ran until the main menu screen, then CTD when I tried to open the first mission from the wall map. I even ran the game in ‘safe mode’ and got the same results. After that, I decided to uninstall the game and got a ‘catastrophic error’ message saying the uninstall failed and probably due to the above video’s instructions.

Finally, I had to remove MOH Allied Assault with the assistance of Revo Uninstaller Pro (a great program and nice to have on hand in the toolbox for such issues).

So, after going through the preceding ‘cyber’ gymnastics, is it worth the trouble to download a digital copy of MOH from the gog.com website?

https://www.gog.com/game/medal_of_honor_allied_assault_war_chest

And will it work in Windows 10 Home, version 1809?

BTW, I have a copy of MOH Pacific Assault CD, Director’s Edition and it seems to run just fine on Windows 10. And the best part, I didn’t have screw around with the software. It started right from the desktop shortcut without using ‘Run as Administrator’. The game came out in 2004, only two years after MOH Allied Assault of which the game CDs may now become two of my favorite ‘coasters’. . .

I’ve also been able to run a much older program on my new computer, Sid Meier’s Civil War Collection which came out in 2000 but fortunately, it was not an EA product!

Hi Magua,

I do have an old retail cd of Allied Assault myself.
However - the version I use on my current Windows 10 Home machine is the "War Chest" version from gog.com.

Should you buy the Gog version of the War Chest as a replacement for you retail discs?
I would personally say go ahead and download the War Chest from Gog, and with a clean install of the game take a look at my earlier posts and links to get it going comfortably with resolution etc.

The main important difference between Gog (maybe Steam too) and the original retail discs is that retail versions included a form of "Safe disc" drm.
Safe Disc is a very old form of drm and does not play too happily with Windows 10, or anything from Vista and above.

In fact, in most cases the drm often causes crashes and various bugs.

There are methods to "disable" the offending drm from retail discs.
Some are better than others, but they don't always seem to work in my experience, and are not always worth it for the "cyber gymnastics" required for the vague possibility of may or may not work.

So, the video you posted suggests using a "fixed" .exe file which - could - be used to work around the issues between a retail version's included Safe Disc drm and modern operating systems like Windows 10.
It is one option, but this is not always the cleanest of solutions, if it does work at all.
And of course there is always the issue of where the altered .exe was downloaded from...

In the end, for convenience and simplicity, the Gog version has no such drm.
As a result it does not actually have these specific issues in the first place.
It has been patched to be more compatible with modern versions of Windows "out the box" which removes a lot of issues from the start.

This is not to say its the Gog version is perfect - it is still an old game so yes there are some issues un related to the drm like resolutions for modern widescreen etc.
But they can easily be resolved and the game can be played enjoyably and smoothly on a modern system.

Co Op mod if interested
https://www.moddb.com/mods/medal-of-honor-cooperative-gameplay

Speaking for myself, It was at the time cheaper than Steam for me to buy on Gog besides which it had other titles in the pack which I had not yet played.

But the main reason for using gog was that being drm free, I could (cheaply) use one copy of the War Chest for two machines on my LAN.
This allowed for the co op campaign mod I wanted to try out with Allied Assault.
