When people say cartoons nowadays suck, do you feel like it's more bias/nostalgia, or the truth?
Personally, while there is still room for improvement, I do feel like cartoons have gotten better over the past few years. There was definitely a time around 2007-2010 where I felt like animation was in the dark ages. However, since then things have slowly gotten better, and now we have some really good shows like Steven Universe, Harvey Beaks, Wonder over Yonder, Star vs. Forces of Evil, etc. The list goes on. Yes there is crap like Breadwinners, but kids also had trash like Cow and Chicken and Billy and Mandy in the midst of great shows.

Sometimes I feel like it's bias, but it depends on whether or not they've given modern cartoons a chance.

A lot of the new cartoons try way too hard to be funny and crazy.

Everyone nowadays is desensitized and addicted to black humor. The cartoons need to be quick to reward as the social media content the kid is likely viewing with their smartphone as they watch the cartoon. Mr. Pickles is the perfect example of this type of cartoon.

Black humor? I don't recall kid shows these days having black humor. But if you're going to use Adult Swim as an example; of course it's going to be dark (nearly everything on that block is).

Anyone here watch Steven Universe? It starts off slow, but gets really good as things move along.
Truth i prefer anime.
I think they are pretty much the same as they always were. Different shows for different people. I think a lot of them today are bad. But I thought a lot of them were bad back in the day. I also find ones I like, and had ones I enjoyed over the years.

The cartoons aren't different. You just got old.

I have to go with nostalgia on this one.

Looking back at your comment, I never realized how insulting it is to children. No children in their right mind would be interested in Mr. Pickles let alone even watch it unless they stayed up very late to see a block strictly for teens and adults.

Cartoons aimed at kids now aren't as good as the cartoons aimed at you when you were a kid... Gee, I wonder what's behind that?

Excuse me, got to go yell at some kids on me lawn...

What's that noise the kids listen today to anyway? What happened to the good music?

there are a few good cartoons left today, but the classics will always be better
When I was a kid, many cartoons were just comercials for toys. Cookie cutter plot week after week, and the only time anything changed was when they added a new toy.

Well, cartoons these days aren't as bad as the overusage of the word "cringey", post #1.

I mean, cartoons are still generally made for children and I personally hate how TV is these days, so I ignore most cartoons. When I was a kid "back then", it was "fun" because I was, well, a child. It was amusing and let me be as a kid should be. Spongebob, for example, was so much fun to watch. Same goes for shows like Danny Phantom or even Treehouse which was a piece of my toddler life. I also remember my mother putting the full ScoobyDoo DVD series on for me while she pissed off somewhere. Probably irresponsible but eh.

I do agree that they are bad. They used to be more mature and for everyone. And actually had laughable humor and good story.
Cartoons now days pretty much do suck. Just seems like they threw in random ideas or anything they can think of to get a laugh or two out of people. Really repetitive too.

We'll find out when the "Samurai Jack" comes out.
By the way, there are many good cartoons nowadays, but it depends on a taste.
Same, thats what I was thinking.
It's pretty much bias. It's more fun to judge the latest generation of cartoons by looking at the bad shows, instead of putting some effort into finding the good shows.

Sure, there are shows like Gravity Falls and Steven Universe, that are actually well-made, but shows like Uncle Grandpa and Breadwinners are allowed to exist. Therefore, cartoons are ruined for ever.

♥♥♥♥ finding the positives in anything. Complaining is too much fun. :rainbowfart:

But at the same time a large portion of those repetitive shows are what makes up the "Cartoon community" now. The charm in something like Gravity Falls, is the amount of story that is thought out in a cartoon aimed to both adults and children. While you have something like Uncle Grandpa that lacks in story, and is aimed just for kids. You see, that Uncle Grandpa portion is what is most of cartoons now. I'm not saying cartoons from the early 2000's or late 90's are the best, and always will be. I'm saying that those days were the "golden age" of mostly well thought out cartoons.
