Do you feel bad after online stalking your crush?
I noticed my thread was removed last night and with it the comments I didn't read. So, I am starting it again.

By stalking, I do not mean cyberstalking, which is harassing. I mean checking their social media profile often, sans interacting.

If you compare the US and most Middle Eastern countries, it is comparitively more misogynistic.
Is that so? I won't judge neither about the US, nor about "most Middle Eastern countries", because I haven't been to any of those places. I was talking about Russia, and saying that Russia is a "misogynistic country" (because NYT said so!) is just ridiculous. You know which countries are really misogynistic? Islamic ones. Little girls there have to cover their hair and their whole body, women aren't allowed to drive, can't even wear trousers or are executed because they "had the gell" to get r*ped. THOSE are misogynistic countries. And comparing them to Russia is just ridiculous.

I did say the Middle East. Muslims are especially oppressive. Read the articles I posted above. No one has mentioned Russia.

"All X believe Y"
"I'm an X and I don't believe Y"
This is called a counterexample.
NTS would be if you rejected the counterexample on the basis that the person was not actually a true X.
Well, at that time, her statement was that she was the true feminist. She then proceeded to try to emphasize/distinguish her position. I'm pretty sure that is an example of a NTS fallacy or maybe it would be both.

Well, in the Middle East, women are still oppressed.

I guess it was a misunderstanding then. Sorry for overreacting. I just had to face a lot of racism in the last few days (weeks, months...), so I am a little too easily irritated when speaking about this, I guess... I highly dislike Arabic countries for their inhumane politics, so you'll understand that I found it offensive to be compared with them.

Russia does have it's own cultural problems but the difference is that religion doesn't have as much to do with it.

I apologize if I offended you. I was referring to Arabic countries.

Yes, just like any other country. I'm not saying Russia is perfect, but it's not the monstrous oppressor country everyone likes to call it.

It's fine, it was my own fault. I completely agree with you about the Arabic countries. Faith in humanity restored. :octodad:

No. The exchange was literally a blanket statement about feminists followed by "I'm a true feminist, and I disagree". The "true" here is like saying "I'm really republican" or "I'm a staunch democrat".

Claiming you are a "true" X cannot be a NTS unless you're saying that someone isn't a "true" X. That's what the "No True" part means -- it's a way to restrict group membership to only those examples that serve your point.
I love these derailed threads.

I don't see why. We're having a nice discussion.
