What's special about counterstrike?
Why is it any different from call of duty or battlefield?

I see people with quadruple digit hours in this game and can't see what's unique or special about this one shooter. Is it the cosmetic add-one that drives continued interest? It's not a free to play game I don't think so I'm confused what this game has that other MP FPS games don't.

it's rather forgotten term in modern age of gaming where ports and controllers (and trading) rule. it basically means that every split part of millimeter you move your mouse, every single breath you take, every single blink you make, and even every thought you have matter a lot. also, this creates large spaces for team play possibilities, even though amount of maps may seem limited at first glance.

It's more competitive than COD or BF imo, strategies and skills feel rewarding and while I don't care about cosmetics it's a big part of its popularity, and it actually is free to play now

The thrill of killing other's before they kill u. If they kill u you can't respawn and u have to wait for another round. You will have you be patient and be careful.

Assuming you just don't play a lot of shooters which is fair enough but the games function very differently. The closest COD gets to CS is the bomb defusal gamemode.

COD and Battlefield are generally run and gun games with easy to learn shooting mechanics. CS has much more emphasis on movement inaccuracies and recoil. It takes a lot longer to learn these mechanics, hence people putting more hours in. CS also has an economy aspect to the game where you have to buy your gear at the beginning of the round with the money you've gotten over the course of the match.

For me, I love it's weapon sound-effects and visuals, especially the Desert Eagle. Even tho low quality, it looks very realistic and heavy.

Killing bots and other players is also a fun experience unlike other shooters, that are mostly dull.

Counter Strike was the original, before all the clone copies.
Extremely competitive and skill based, that's it

It does not require much skills, relies on old code (so alot of randomness) and is easily cheated in online.

For some nostalgia.. But then again.. I remember when we joked about CS, I mean it was just a copy of Action Quake after all and inferior to Qauke... but well.. you know.. then the tyranny of the majority happened.

I think this is the best answer. So I made it so.
