Why do people find enjoyment in torturing rats and hamsters?

I swear, tiktok for example is full of videos where people are purposely prodding hamsters in cages until they show annoyance or even corner them to get them to scream. All for views it seems, or for their personal pleasure...

For rats is even worse, especially on youtube with all those inhumane traps which are it seems designed to make the rats suffer as much as possible rather than giving them a quick death. Next thing is even more sick, one guy caught a rat in a cage then started to shake the cage violently to terrify the rat as much as he can. And don't even get me to start on the comments those videos get... BARELY any comment is against what those people are doing and they are instead encouraging it and writing their own stories on how they tortured rats. Someone wrote they ripped the rat's tail/teeth. Someone other wrote they lighted the rat on fire or that they cut his limbs

Why is it like this? This is just disturbing

One word, Sociopaths

People that enjoy harming small animals as a child are showing signs of a deep mental disturbance and lack of basic empathy, in which they tend to grow up becoming psychopaths.

Others just do it for their own attention and shock value, having the urge to need to show and gross someone else out about it. They fuel off the emotional reaction of you the viewer, rather than even considering the animals.

You would be surprised at how many apparently normal people just don't care about animals, and don't even care or think about the suffering they may cause them.

I knew a woman who bred dogs. She had four of them she kept as pets in her house. She said she loved them dearly. She found out that there was some doubt as to which dog was the father, so their pedigree was withdrawn. She had them all put down.

Another personal "friend", her cat had unexpected kittens. She killed them all. Not only that, but in the most horrible way I could imagine. That ended our friendship, I can tell you.

These are just a few examples. There are plenty more.

Same here mate. This is a sick world so things like these just happen

I saw a video of a guy drowning a rat in a cage for a minute, then pulling the cage out of water for 5 seconds, then he drowned him again for another minute and he repeated this like 10 times... Absolutely awful

The most disturbing thing out all of these sick videos is not even the fact that people want to kill them, they want them to suffer and listen to their screams of pain

But I think you are right that there are a lot of people who just don't care about cruelty to animals. Including, apparently, youtube.

You know when you see a cartoon, and the cartoon has something bad happen, and you think "thank goodness that isn't me?" Well, youtube's algorithm has the same feeling and thinks we are all cartoons.
