I mean kids will naturally love holidays and gifts, only adults that were bitten dislike it. : P
"Have a good holiday, if you celebrate"
If we don't recognize religion, why would we celebrate religion?
I recognize it as a time to catch up with family I've not seen in a while over a good meal.
It's easy to associate pain with this time of year, but I assure you that the true spirit of Christmas has never been the reason for anybody's suffering.
It can't hurt to make new and happier memories in this time though.
Oh it tried to absorb it with Santa and Snowmen... didn't work, CHRISTmas is still here to stay.
Have a Merry Christmas
I could piss off everyone I know, but that wouldn't be worth it.
I understand it's just easier for everyone that is celebrating to do it on the same day, but if you're celebrating Christmas, celebrate Christmas properly on the 25th.
If you're celebrating "the holidays" with people that don't care about Christmas, do it any day. Have the celebration in August. There's no good holidays during the summer (and technically, it wouldn't be a holiday since that breaks down to mean "holy-day", implying there is some significance to the occasion).
But also, what signifies this as being special or any different from any other get-together during the rest of the year?
Why the 25th?
What significance does this date have to anyone who doesn't actually care about the real reason behind the celebration?
I believe it is too.
Thank you!
And a blessed and Merry Christmas to you also!
And I hope God shares His many blessings with you as well!
Here's my idea, if you want to wish people a merry Christmas, then do that. If someone gets offended that easily over it, then just nod your head and move on. Life is too short to get hung up over stuff like this, and it's also too short to worry about how other people celebrate or do x or y thing if it isn't directly impacting you or negatively affecting you.
Why the 25th?
Because while I may be non religious it doesn't mean the rest of my family is. They still observe it on the day of and plan everyone getting together accordingly.
Why it's a matter of being special is with a large extended family as we have, not everyone is going to take the time and money to make trips from out of state to get together otherwise (outside of a funeral).
So, even if not all of us are religious or actually observe the holiday, the majority of the elders are and do and it's about the only time of the year the majority of us are all able to meet up at once.
Doesn't mean those of us that don't observe it are jerks to those that do in the family. It's just 'hey, big home cooked meal with people I haven't seen in a long time.'
