American football is MUCH more entertaining than soccer.
Of course, this really didn't need to be brought up, because it is obvious. However, let's have an open discussion forum on this topic, because they always turn out to be the most fun! What is your opinion on this matter? Are you more of a fan of gridiron football, or marathon football (AKA soccer, futbol)?

I'm a fan of the NFL and Division 1 NCAA college football. Never really got into the CFL or lesser football leagues. The XFL was entertaining during its first season, however, not anymore. I tried to get into soccer. I really did. I tried for two World Cups. The most entertaining World Cup was the Zidane headbutt. Oh, the memes! The best part about soccer is all of the flopping. Soccer players are HILARIOUS floppers. Hockey has its fights, soccer has its flops. I'd much rather watch hockey than soccer. Anyway! Football!:steamhappy::steamthis:

American football: Game lasts 60 minutes. Which, when translated into farenheit, amounts to four hours, mostly made up of TV time outs.

Association football: game lasts 90 minutes, and there are no TV time outs, only a 15 minute halftime break.

Which is why I watch five to ten European football games per week, and no American football since 2011.
Yeah. I pretty much stopped paying attention to American Football after my Dad died in 2000. I just followed it to have something to talk to him about on weekends, because it's all he wanted to talk about on weekends, and it ain't rocket science.

I was a closeted trans girl in the 1990s when I chose my club allegiance to a financially struggling West London side with a girl's name. Still cis though. I chose them because of both the name and they were actively bucking against the racism of English football in the 80s & 90s & hiring black coaches and central playmakers, to compete above their budget. A real underdog story, my Chelsea Blues.

ah yes, like cyclists. reasonable they must sprint fast on the grass.

oh, so it's the other way around. well idk it always seemed awkward to me but it seems like driving to the left is the awkward one. i wouldn't know :P

I mean it's just a majority thing, why this is even a thing is beyond me, all countries should drive in the same side.

that would be the reasonable thing. seen drivers get confused cause they had to switch sides on other countries they went.
if i am not mistaken i think it was the British who introduced right side driving.

must we always be better than anyone? soccer doesn't really have many fans in the states.
In the last thread about it i posted a video. It´s that there was some kind of campaign, that all sports in which the people don´t use the hands - are commie sports. So that´s automatically evil.
Which is hilarious when you look at how American sports are run, it's basically communism. Whereas in Europe it's hyper capitalist.
I agree, football is waaay better than soccer, more team orientation, better moments for dramatic swings, a deeper set of rules and options....soccer's only benefit is that it's easier to get into and actually play on a community level. Bu ton a watching level? No, Football wins top to bottom.

Americans can't run for more than a few seconds, unless it is to McDonalds.

Ever heard about this thing called Basketball? Or watch a Wide Receiver(the guys on the far left/right which go long distances to catch the thrown ball).

In average less than 3 miles, in most cases less than 2 miles. For both. Probably at a higher intensity though, even if not at full pace for the most part.

In "soccer" a center back covers like 5.7 miles per match. These run the least distance. And outside players run like 0.5 miles per match sprinting at highest speed, which would be around 50% more for an attacker.

Also i guess both sports are all about team play - while in football (the real one), You could buy the best players for each position, but still not have the best team - and wouldn´t win everything - or anything even. I don´t know how it works in American football, if You have 3 exceptional key players. While there probably the quarterback position is valued rather high, while in football, any position is important. If the right defender is weak, the other team would exploit that. If the other team has some exceptional play maker, but the rest is average - the other team would exploit that.

And the only thing that football is about which it makes it easier to get into is that it doesn´t matter much how tall You are - else it looks way easier than it is. Most people couldn´t even pass the ball over half the distances these people do - and then it´s also about precision.

Wrong very wrong. James harrison has the longest touchdown run in super bowl history a 100 yard interception touchdown run. I can also run 4 miles non stop.
