Anyone who decries pay to win mechanics objectively just has a major skill issue.
just pay harder
you do realize you dont need to activate win10 right?
but.
1 i did spend a lot of money obtaining a full retail copy of windows 7 in 2016.(300 euro + 60euro shipping) i could have gotten win 10 for a lot less but i not wanted it.
2 i put in houra of work scrolling trough win 7 updates to select which ones were ok and which to block to precent win 7 from updating to win 10 against my will
3 i like my legancy cdrom games win 10 does not rub those, win 10 also has spyware and features i really not like while lacks festures i want to keep.
(true much of the bloat and spyware can be removed from win 10 but i hate so much it is default ib it i not want it anyway)
4 wibdows 10 is cery bas in running old 16 bit fames let alone 8 bit games win 7 ultimate runs them fine.
5 frigging xbox life?? i hate consoles!
i hate it so much i have an rtx gpu yet never used rtx or dx12 as those?are win 10 exclusive i rather hice up sone performance of my hardware if i can keep win 7.
i even foujd a wsy to purchase for 1000 euro the 3 year extra extended win 7 support officially obly for compagniesm meaning i have had suppport right until this year for wi7
so much money and efford i have spend to keep win 7
i just not want win 10 forced on me.
would I when i got tio buying an new pc install win 10 on it even onlyvas dualboot to acces the internet for more dubious sites.. possibly though i might have gone linux too..
antway not ob THIS system and NOT forced.
but as states the main issue i take is :
i like retro gaming... games made for dos win 95 98 and xp i own many off and play often.
many of those wont even work on win 7.. luckely i can still instal those old os and than install those games all from cdrom and floppy no fuzz.
as such i am well aware that older games wont alwaysrun on newer os.
-this includes the games on steam.
problem is.. the games on steam remain as they are.. and if they were made for win xp or 7 and wont run on win 10 they run fine on win 7.. but once steam drops win 7 support i wont have a way to install or play them on win 7 anymore.
*sure i can install them all now and run in offline modus.. but thats 1 failed sector away from never playing (plus it needs a terrible large hd.. unlike .iso that i could burn away or store on my nas)
and even of you point out "but most the games in your steam library now work fine on win 10" most likely do.
though many will take work to gey running again. i stopped pirating cause i did not like fiddling to get them to run.. time i rather spend elsewise... if legal copies now need fiddling whats the point of legal copies?
but most likely not all so some are outright game over foregood.
those that are not :
ofthose that still work under windows 10.. some wont workanymore under 11 when 10 support is droped
and those that work under 11 wont work unser 12.. when 11 support is dropped.
until at some point NONE of the games i now own on steam is playable anymore as they all need an os older than what steam runs on.
this utter disrepect to preseve the art that games are for posterity effectively killing retro gaming for future generations.. is why this is a matter that should consern all steam users to the point they should not spend a cent anymore on steam untill steam offers a way to at least install and launch your games under older os.
yes.
but i wont be spenfing a cent anymore on steam.
neither should you, whatever os you are using.
amd as a user who was spending 7 times more a year than the average user on steam, that got to hurt them
but thats not why i have been makimg so much noice since january about this.
its not i want to stop spending.. i want not to see games turned into perishable goods.
gabe promised if steam ever went bust he would provide us with some crack so we could keep using our games forever even when steam was gonre.
that all nice but that should also extend to os obce supported that are now dropped.
they should be provided with some sort of crack too.
without respect.. we reject!
Untrue. Updates may intruduce certain features / content that is also present in Windows 10, but without explicitly taking the "update to Windows 10" option, it wont update to full WIndows 10. There is no "scrolling through updates over hours just to prevent Windows 10".
The same was said about every Windows that came out after XP, so why are you apperantly fine with Windows 7?
You dont have to use it tho, a simple click is enough to deactivate that.
Except that this makes no sense. The "provide a crack if Steam goes bust" thing (if it was actually true) refers to Steam literally not existing anymore and you losing access to your games because of that.
But thats not the case her. They just stop supporting a heavily outdated OS. And you and everyone else knew that this would be a possibility, the whole "software / hardware requirements of Steam may change in the future" thing is part of the EULA / ToU / ToS of Steam.
Unfortunately valve decides not to continue in old versions. That means Win 7/8 is now the minority of less than 3% market value. If 99% of community are using Win 7/8 then valve will certainly not drop support for it. It doesn't matter if Microsoft ditch it. Thus the better argument would be 'the company needs to stay afloat with the majority'.
It's what I did about 18 months ago. I'm not going to move to Windows 11. And at this point, I won't be moving to any version of Windows ever again. It has nothing to offer me but headaches like these.
