E3: Once world's biggest gaming show permanently axed
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-67695639

The E3 gaming show, once the biggest event in the gaming calendar, has been permanently cancelled.
In a statement, the organisers said: "After more than two decades of E3, each one bigger than the last, the time has come to say goodbye."
It added: "Thanks for the memories. GGWP [good game well played]".
The 2023 expo had already been called off after analysts said it had "struggled to remain relevant".
Industry body Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which ran E3, confirmed to the BBC that the event will not go ahead in the future.
E3 - which stands for Electronic Entertainment Expo - was last held virtually in 2021.
The last in-person event was in 2019.
Game developer Hollie Bennett said it was "sad" to see E3 "fizzle out".
She wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that it was "hard to sum up the impact E3 had on the industry".
"Your year almost revolved around it!", she wrote. "Nothing generated buzz like E3 did."

I almost never watched it, but it's kinda sad to see it go anyway.

It's like an odd sort of farewell to my youth. Like if they killed the X games or something.
It truly marks the fact that the PC is pushing itself into a niche market. In the 90s a 486DX that I got was over 1,200
Those figures are now a reality worldwide. A 1080 TI (the most powerful GPU at the time) was at most on release 800. Now a 4090 is near the price of a *whole* PC build! How do I know?
Well after 10 years I’ve just gone for a full rebuild for my 60th (I’ve been pc gaming for 33 years)

MSI Z790 Tomahawk WIFI
32 GB DDR5 5600MHz
I5-13400f
Corsair MP600 pro NH Gen4 1TB
Crucial 500MX 4TB
WD Black Gaming 6TB HDD
Gigabyte RTX 4060 TI 8GB
MSI MAG Forge 110R case
Viewsonic 27” curved 1440p

All of that approx 1,500

I had to make choices. None of the cards out there were worth anything close to the real value. A 3080 was 800-1200. GTF!
The industry is killing itself since lockdown where stock sat piling up and now it’s geared towards making as much money out of artificial inflated prices.

The other thing that totally peeved me off is all my decades of building you got *all* SATA cables (my ROG Maximus had 4 SATA cables, 2 SATA3 cables along with CD-Rom, beautiful 100+ page manual, screws etc.)
Companies are so stingy now. A QR code for a manual and a driver there’s no pride anymore and it reflects in E3 what with EVGA disappearing. A ton of remakes. The games industry is, like food and electricity, a considered purchase.

No wonder quality sucks today.
All trends die as long as they are kept out of the hands of the people.
For decades, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has been the premier event for showcasing the latest developments in the gaming industry. However, after closing for the pandemic and a series of missteps, including the cancellation of the event, major tech giants such as Microsoft, Sony, Sega, and Ubisoft opted to create their own live and virtual events.
It’s about being in control and targeting an audience with as little expense as possible.

Just like devs instead of posting on steam now have gone to Discord to control negativity and ban people at will if they cause a ‘stirring’.
Never bothered watching it tbh, it's pretty much just a bunch of companies marketing their stuff.
I though E3 was canned a long time ago, like they stopped doing the actual convention due to the lack of people showing up a few years ago and went totally digital...so I figured E3 was dead for a while.

My usual strategy was just to hang out on a message board, since I do that anyway, and click the relevant threads. Since within an hour, they'd all be a catalog of everything that was announced with clickable links leading to the trailer.

No sitting through the TOTALLY UNEXPECTED Call of Duty announcement or reboot of some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I didn't even care about thirty years ago.

"Once, one of the world's biggest pay-to-play marketing expos" <-- Fix't
It's alright. TGA replaced E3.
In America this was big news in 2012.
I honestly didrnt care to much of it, i just read the aftermath if anything catched my eye.

It hasn't had a reason to exist for years, we don't need journalists going to shows and reporting back for magazines and TV shows, we have the internet!
There is Gamescom in Cologne again 2024, about in August.

This is now the world´s biggest event for both computer and video games.
