When Interrupting is Rude
It's rude when it inhibits the effective transmission of the message the person is trying to get across. Interrupting is rude when it gets in the way of the speaker transmitting their message effectively (there are not many exceptions other than emergencies).

For instance, filibusters in Senate is an example of how civilized people respect the notion of not interrupting the speaker.

When someone interrupts repeatedly simply remove them from your life, the person has revealed they do not respect you as an equal human being.

What if two people at work talk about their daily lives, you have something more important to say that is related to work and they keep talking?

Warn them, then fire them if it happens again.

How rude. They were trying to communicate effectively and you interrupted.

Of course it's rude.

On the other hand interruption is not rude, when You´re not interested in the message the other guy wants to deliver. In that case it would be rude to let him talk, while he thinks that You listen to what he says, or takes anything he says into consideration. In that case interruption would be a sign of honesty, and also saves time - while it´s obviously way easier to pretend one is polite and well mannered - even if it is the opposite.

It depends on what I’m interrupting. If it’s something dumb I’ll have to call you out for it.

I am a listener. I am the type of person who never interrupts someone.

Yes. I am like that too - but i´m unsure if it´s not rude to tell them that they wasted their time talking about all that afterwards - or that i didn´t listen and ask if they can repeat it. I´d interrupt people if i did that the second time though. Also depends on the mood.

I'm very persistent with loud and rude people. I simply keep repeating what I intend to say until it's said. In terms of etiquette, I follow a 40 seconds rule; it's the maximum duration you should talk for before allowing others to speak.

Remind me of the time when I was working as an intern groundskeeper. A retiree came up to me and started telling me tales of his past. Someone had to yell (it was lunch time) to save me from the tsunami of stories of this Abraham Simpson type of man. I thought there was no end to his words. I did enjoy what I heard. It was something different to my day.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I am under the impression that the rule about interruption largely only exists insofar as interrupting a person mid-sentence. A sentence shouldn't be a terribly long thing in a back 'n forth conversation. Sometimes it can be hard, but you might be able to butt your way into the conversation without interrupting a person mid-sentence, at least if it's a back and forth conversation.

Plus, since you're at work, that kind of takes priority, unless they're on break.

I guess it´s about these kind of people, when You start talking about some story, and somehow they interrupt and talk about their version of it, as they experienced something similar, even if it´s completely different. Or You make some statement, which would lead to a certain conclusion, but somehow the other person makes it about their opinion.

In theory...
