It ended up becoming like a second job, earning game gold to pay for the month's subscription (via token).
Should I ever feel drawn to sink my life away on an mmo again, it's probably a sign that I'm ready to check out.
Fact checking time: The level cap was originally 60, but with each new expansion they raised it up until Battle for Azeroth, which had a level cap of 120[wowpedia.fandom.com]. Then they squished it back down and started building it back up again after that, so it is not possible anymore, but the point I have to make here is that a level 92 world of warcraft character was possible from 2014 to 2020. It is entirely plausible that this could have happened a few years ago, especially since this is presented as a resurfaced memory.
Raising the level cap was probably done for the sake to keep the old playerbase invested, but eventually keeping the existing playerbase invested takes a back seat to keeping the game accessible to new players, as the old playerbase dwindles away.
In the days before group finder you would find people just wandering around trying to find the entrance for instances or looking for people to group up with. Really had a wild west element to it, especially on the PvP servers.
I can't remember what it was called but there was a park in the Mage's district in Stormwind in the early versions and everyone just used to go and hang out there. People would be trading, dancing and all that stuff.
When I got my friend playing we used to spend all night travelling to Teldrassil and then just go to the different zones and listen to the music
There were also bad things like ninja looters, spawn campers and gold scammers, but in a strange way that added to the game. Gave you a real sense that it was a world with good and bad things.
I think I enjoyed it so much at first because I didn't really understand how to play rpg games at that time. I thought the combat was boring because you just clicked on the enemy and I never payed attention to any of the stats or gear, I just chose Paladin and went wandering around.
The biggest personal achievement I had in the game was the level 40 mount. I was over the moon about that because I really felt like I had to work for it forever, but by the time I got the level 60 one (just before WotLC came out) I didn't care about the game anymore
I remember I was lvl 57 before I could afford the first mount (used the wolf form to travel mostly before that)
there was this big ass raid on alliance capitol going with 300 people all lvl 60
I decided I could go too cause I just had this mount right
the funny thing is I aggroed like ALL npc gaurds cause im the lowest level of all and I just run like mad through the city to stay alive and the 60's slaughtered like everything and everyone
