GDevelop.
I want to make a top down open world RPG for Android and Steam. For anyone who has knowledge on the engine, would it be worth investing in $20 for a subscription to make the project? I have very little to no coding experience, so I want to know what the largest drawbacks are of the engine. I am fairly nifty on getting certain things to work and have enough artistic values to source my own assets. Wondering if there is anyone who could tell me confidently that it's not worth it.

Can't you hire coders from India to make your game?

GDevelop founder/creator here - I encourage you to ask the community on our Discord (find the link on GDevelop website).
From my biaised point of view, an open-world top-down RPG is:
1) Totally doable (VERY simple example: https://editor.gdevelop.io/?project=https://resources.gdevelop-app.com/examples/top-down-rpg/top-down-rpg.json)
2) Also not the easiest game type for a new game creator (combat system needs some advanced logic, which is totally accessible with GDevelop, but it will need more time to be created and tested).

As for the engine itself, various games on Steam have been made with it, a lot of indie games and promotional games for big brands - you can't go wrong :)
