Do you consider "nerd" to be a bad word?
My main account just got banned tonight for 3 days because I called someone a nerd.

The exact sentence was "Go through his post history and see for yourself, nerd."
Because the guy above was being a smart ahh (gotta be careful how I phrase myself here).
anyway, you think the ban is justified?

I see the word as the same category as any other.

It's up to each individual rather than the context.
You don't have to find it to be offensive or insulting, it's all in your head; You don't have to care how has the person meant it, do you?

Generally speaking, it's dependable on the context just like any other word.
If it's used towards a stranger, then some form of a respect is expected and necessary, so I wouldn't be surprised if it'd be seen as insulting, because there's no bond between those two or more people to have them open up to each other and tease each other from time to time.

You do get the idea.

Considering that nerds rule the world, it's actually a compliment.

Absolutely not.

If nerd was once an insult, it has since lost all of that meaning. At this point calling someone a nerd is on the same level as calling them a dummy. Maybe even less.

not at all nerd is a good term

nerd
= intelligent (good)
= strong interests (good)
= social inept (bad)

so overal all good thing.

the better version is called geek

geek is a nerd who does have social skills (but still is intelligent and has weird obessesions aka interests.

both nerd and geek are good to be called.

what you NOT want to be called :

dweeb and dork

a dweeb is an intelligent, social inept person, but without obsession.
-> so they usually acomplish nothing in life.. wasting their great brain on 100 different things never sticking long enough on 1 thing to become an expert.. while also totally socially inept..

a nerd and a geek will have great jobs.. a dweeb does not despite all 3 being intelligent

a dork is even worse...
a dork has the obsessions and the social ineptitude but not the intelligence
they waste their time remembering total trivial useless facts like how late the bus leaves..

so basicly.. being smart is best.

a geek is smart, has a good job and a great social life
a nerd is smart, has a good job, and is on his own
a dweeb is smart, has no job, and is on his own
a dork is dumb, has no job, and is on his own.

Link and Rhett made a video about it that clarifies the differences.

And for most of us that went to college I embrace and embody both definitions.
For those with thinner spines just walk it off.
Meanwhile enjoy the video.

No, the ultimate objective of a nerd is the betterment of society. It's hard to argue that this is bad, although it is possible.

Vital context is missing here as to why the moderator called you a nerd. I doubt you would be willing to tell us what prompted this whole thing to come to that point anyway.

Sorry, not taking opinions from weebs.

And you wonder why you ended up being looked at, and with a comment like this is hard to disagree. apparently you learned nothing from it.

I always remember them being interchangeable... within the circle...

Outside of the circle "nerd" was more used on others...
