Question to all Asians living in Asia
First of all, is it true that there are Asians living in Asia who hang out on Steam?
For real Asians living in Asia, I would like to know how are you, isn't life too hard in Japan or China, Vietnamese, ...?
What do you think of Steam? Are you satisfied ?

I've been curious about Mahathir. He served as Malaysia's prime minister in 1981-2003 and 2018-2020. Most of you probably don't remember his first term. During the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the international news media depicted him as a totalitarian and one who'd lead Malaysia to ruin. And the news media interviewed the Malaysians who opposed him. Part of the reason was that he went against the advice of the IMF by increasing government spending and fixing the ringgit to the dollar. I remember a cartoon satire depicting him as singing 'My Way.' It turned out that Malaysia recovered from the financial crisis faster than any of its Southeast Asian neighbours. Some of the other major Asian economies such as Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, China, Vietnam and Brunei were less affected by the crisis. Unlike the international news media during the 1997 Asian financial crisis, 'Time' magazine in 2019 listed Mahathir as one of the 100 most influential people. I wonder what you all (especially the Malaysians) think of Mahathir?
I'm embarassed to say that I'm not super familiar with Malaysian politics, despite being from Singapore which is extremely culturally linked. But I'm well aware of Mahathir and his legacy, and I've always got the sense that Mahathir was an interesting guy. He was rather ambitious, and eager to get his country to emulate Singapore's success, even if it didn't always pan out. He was a good leader, especially compared to some other leaders that came after.

Also, I've always found those "Queen Elizabeth is immortal" jokes really stupid. Mahathir is OLDER than the Queen (and has now managed to outlive her), is an actual serving state leader as opposed to the Queen where parliament made most of the decisions, and came back to power when his nation is hit with one of the biggest scandals the world has ever seen to set things right (a reminder that he was 92 when all this happened).
I was surprised at his age when he came back to power.

And Singapore and Malaysia have an interesting relationship. Singapore used to be part of Malaysia. But it was actually Malaysia's decision to make Singapore independent due to the disagreements that the two had. My friend from Singapore told me a lot about Malaysia.

The elders at my workplace told me that Mahathir used Blood transfusion. Removing old blood and injecting young blood. He is currently the oldest PM in the world at 92.
Ha ha! Is that a common joke in Malaysia? Thanks for telling us.

Thank you for your answers. Did you stop interacting with people because of the pandemic? What are some of the things that your sister said about the past?
i just never enjoyed talking to people, I'm more of a family person, shy? to talk to people directly? probably

she did say the past was better because times were more simple but i don't know
she's 10 years older than me
Yeah. I heard that a lot of the older Japanese like to talk about those decades. Especially during the 80s, the main countries making economic headlines were Japan and the US.

No, it's a technology that came to fruition around WW2 and was absorbed via Operation Paperclip.
