why is mecha anime all done terribly?
eureka 7

no one is likable at all

i dont think anything was explained

gun x sword

van and ray are both extremely despicable

Gurren Lagann

kamina is also despicable and a pervert, the others know that

he dies but they all miss him as if he was a great guy and a hero. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

dumb mechs too

darling in the franx

simp, hornball bait, extremely weeb and sexual

dumb mech and dumber enemies

code gease

amazing powers, can only be used once.. wtf

C.C is useless

pizza is forced, who do you think your show is? are you trying to rip off the tmnt? they didnt force it but this anime does

leouch doesnt do much

in season 2 hes nerfed and lost his awesome anubis mech that he magically found

after he and others were teleported mid battle to an island

knights and magic

jesus as a kid lives his dream in being a wizard expert in magic and mecha

somehow makes all the upgrades that no one in the kingdom could only dream of and btw, a teenager is borrowing the kids body

and all those monsters? ignored

the anime comes to a cliff hanger. lame

most of gundam

boring as ♥♥♥♥

power levels everywhere

bad plot and writing

annoying characters

bokurano

also pretty boring and you die just from piloting the mecha...

Dennou Boukenki Webdiver

boring and boring fights

friendship saved the day

nothing made sense

Yuusha Might Gaine

boring and quick boring fights

same final attack

hero always won and had cheated in some fights

friendship ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ won the day

only like four villains over and over again

thats ten mecha animes, maybe more all with the same problems.

not one thats really worth watching and thats terrible

mecha annihilated basically all other genres in the 80s due to sheer quality.

this is unacceptable so japan's evil overlord(s) made every series afterwards ♥♥♥♥♥♥, at the cost of destroying the genres they were 'protecting' in the process.

also it made the yakuza look like ♥♥♥♥ when they shut down a good series because they're mindless lifeless robots who exist to eat drink and pick fights with adolescents, in between gunning down stadiums full of people because the overlord asked them to. (I'm joking thiiiis much, my kids weren't always responsible with their gang when they still ran it.)

same reason the plots are all retarded for-kids stuff people are unable to take seriously.

I was never really into the mech concept. I watched The Big O, don't remember it. I don't really consider Evangelion mecha, but it has some overlap. Gundam was whatever. Patlabor was good.

row row fight the power
Aldnoah.Zero was pretty good
GunsForBucks Dec 5, 2023 @ 5:50pm
Ghost in the Shell had some great mecha stuff

Evangelion is classic

Robotech had F14's <not interested in the stories but the mecha was good>

just off the top of my head

Deca Dence was different but definitely interesting

Yeah the mecha stuff in that was excellently done.
mecha is basically an OG category , you can't understand the thrill of something that was new at that old age , the 80's - 90's , true that the animation wasn't high flame level like nowadays ,and surely there was CGI here and there , but it will always have that crown, i know mecha now is hardly being watched

nothing's ever really matched the detail of Takahashi's later works, such as Gasaraki.

Cyborg in OPM

Outlaw star grappler ships.
Birds Dec 5, 2023 @ 6:10pm
cartoonishly over-detailed and fantastical, both of them. just random crap flying around for no reason.

a pebble hits the grapple arm, it splinters and shatters like a wooden twig in a press

aaaaargh, superficial damage!

Are you directing this at me?

My post was adding stuff I thought was decent mecha ... I wasn't trying to compare it to what you mentioned if that is where you are coming from with this.

I am not familiar with Gasaraki so I have no frame of reference.

Frankly any anime will have flaws you can pick at and claim it to be bad. Many are fairly iffy even when the show holds together.

You wouldn't have much of a plot if everyone was logical and made sensible decisions all the time.
Acetyl Dec 5, 2023 @ 6:30pm
I don't think it's about logical or not. Like Kusanagi linking with 2501, Ichise returning to Lux, Ergo Proxy bothering to return to the dome and fight with himself even though his creations didn't need him anymore, Shinji staying at NERV. By what metric is logic applied. Anime isn't written in those standard 3 or so templates programmed into everyone from birth in the West.

Not sure if it counts as "mecha" but I really liked some of the fight scenes in Tenchi Muyo War on Geminar. The Tenchi Muyo one before it, don't recall (GXP, perhaps), also features a mecha battle at the end, which I suspect is the inspiration for the War on Geminar series. Those shows are more harem than mecha, mind you, and they don't take themselves very seriously.

Break Blade was also pretty good, I thought.

Hmm others...Ghost in the Shell SAC probably counts as mecha, I enjoyed that one.

Aquarion is pretty bad in my opinion, but you might like it. Weird sexual/emotional energy powered robots...

Gundam Wing (many variants)...I mean, I liked the first one and gundam Seed, back when I was younger, I find them hard to watch now.

Fullmetal Panic is rather well appreciated by the general public. Lots of fans for that one.
