Can I get a money order online?
Edit: they accepted a check instead after talking to their head office. Crisis over.

My apartment's autopayment processor had a problem and my payment didn't go through. Now the management want a money order but I have no way to get one. I haven't left my apartment complex since the Covid pandemic started, 4+ years ago...

I am so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ done with this life.

go to your bank and get some checks to write, they have generic courtesy ones you fill in your own info for to use in the lobby or ask at the counter.

Do people not use checks at all?

You can also look up check cashing places, they often sell money orders as well

Checks take a while to clear and it seems that OPs landlord really wants their money asap which is really sad on the landlords part give the poor bro a break times are hard.

Dont they take a big chunk of cash to do that tho? Money orders in the stores around me only charge a dollar for it.
If you mean a check cashing place they shouldn't charge any more for a money order than any place else. They do take a bite out if you actually cash a check in those places. But other services like bill pay direct and money orders are pretty much a set fee. Been years since I used places like that though.

If they want to stay indoors the only option I see though is to order checks from the bank and use those. They would have to deposit the check and money order the same way anyway. Electronic transfer is pretty much next day anymore with checks. They know right away if you have the cash.

Yeah that is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they are doing that to you then. They should accommodate you and just take the check if it bounces or something then they can proceed to be upset. It's not like you don't want or can't give the money they are being unreasonable.

I can only guess they have suffered too many bounced check fees from people ripping them off. Kind of hard to believe since it is an apartment and they don't just add the fee to the rent for those people but whatever.

Never heard of anyplace that would let you print your own money order at home from an electronic payment.

Fairly certain you are going to need to go out to a place to get one. Did you ask them if any place was close by? Do they take cash?

Ask about bank transfer?

So the management talked to their head office and accepted a check. Crisis over... but I do really need to think about getting back into the real world, I suppose.

Glad you got it straightened out, its winter time ( well not really in texas ) but you could just wear a bunch of concealing clothes and slowly make your ways out in the world until you are comfortable without the hiding in plain sight

Certainly is cheaper to live by shopping yourself over having everything delivered. Crazy how much I see people having stuff delivered just because they are too lazy to go shopping... they leave the house all the time ha ha.

I spend less to get stuff delivered than I would on car insurance and maintenance and whatnot. Definitely lose out on the convenience of having a vehicle, though. Haven't needed it for years but suddenly it's a major concern.

landlord suggested a money order because it's a lower up-front cost than getting a checkbook, and you can't bounce it as easily on your way out.

Idk shipping costs are ridiculous nowadays. I had to pay 7 dollars for shipping on a 7 dollar item.
