Imagine you did something stupid or maybe you were wrongly framed but were found guilty. The punishment: 20 years in the state pen. What would you do to get ready? You have 1 month on home arrest before you are sent to the slammer.

Would you lift weights and increase food intake?
Would you practice on your negotiation skills?
Would you sit in the corner and cry?
Would you talk to ex inmates about what to expect in the pen?
Would you do nothing...

What would you do?

Over 98% of inmates are highly religious. Either Christian or Muslim. I have a friend whose dad was in jail for a few years. He read the bible fully a few times. When you are in jail there isn't much to do except read and you are deep within your thoughts all day.

Prison rape is real though. Also, the stabbings of Larry Nassar and Derek Chauvin show that prison to be a very dangerous place. I don't know how I would react tbh if I were sentenced to a life behind bars.

Yea. I'll agree and disagree with that statement. True, structure is great while in prison. While you are in an environment that creates that type of structure. But, when these inmates do leave the environment they are back in the same situation that put them in jail to begin with. So, it doesn't really last for many inmates.

When people are done serving in the military the one thing that they always state is how they miss the structure. The military is highly structured. But when they leave that environment, they fall into drugs, alcohol consumption, etc. And so, for many the structure that they once enjoyed is gone. It doesn't last.

i'd do what i could to remain on good terms with everyone if possible or not meet them, either way they would have no reason to do anything to or against me. same with the guards and the warden.

i would start exercising, in a prison you are in a different society and if you aren't prepared to take a few hits then you shouldn't be there. besides prison is meant to be for punishment and being in good shape can be useful in case you are marched out to a bus and then transported somewhere to do hard work.

if you are on okay terms with everyone, in theory you shouldn't need any charisma or negotiation skills. even so i would be useless at such a task being i was never raised as a charmer.

no, i'd start learning what it takes to survive in a prison as soon as possible so i can work out ways to avoid getting into situations. pissing and moaning about it just delays that process, hurts your throat and dehydrates you anyway.

if i had no other choice, i would commit a crime and get myself locked up on purpose so the prison system can look after me and give me a place to stay. okay it's not what i want or what i would imagine it to be, but it beats rummaging through bins in a freezing cold december morning just trying to survive, smelly like a sewage plant in clothes should be burned than washed, long past their best caked in grime from the body.

A lot of people think jail is like hell, but it's really not that bad as long as you are respectful. When you go in jail you basically ask the other inmates who the boss is and then you go meet the boss, show your respect and ask what is expected of you, usually cleaning duties which are shared among all inmates. And then if you do that, then you're pretty much okay with everyone.

Maybe in america. Most prisons aren't like that, like maybe they will haze you a bit and force you to choose a husband but they're just kidding around cause you're the new guy just trying to scare you for a joke or something.

i my country there is no bail.
they can 48h lock you up without reason than release you.
if they have a case.. you must await your trial in jail no bail here.

if you found innocent you get 25 euro per day unjustly in jail monetairy conpensation
if found guilty that time awaiting your trial gets deducted from your verdict.

so if I am lifted of my bed now by police I will have zero time to prepare.
But I can ask friends and family to bring items later.

if I was arrested in another nation I demand the right to be transefered to a prison in my own nation.
-If a nation without that treaty I put everyrhing on escape and get back to my own nation as we than also have to exchange agreement with them.. in my own nation I would be free.
-if I am arested in a nation with bail.. I would flee that nation back to my own.
even if arrested later at least I woukd serve jail in my own nation.

20 years is also unlikely :
in my nation 12 is maximum you can get for serial murder. we also don't stack offenses you can only be judged once for your most severe offense all lessed offenses are dropped when that one is jusged. no idiotic 200y punishments here.
If I can escape and flee home at the very least my nation would scrap many years as even if it folowed the ruling it would adapt the punishment to the number of years our nation gives for it.. and that will never be 20.

I dont like criminals as upstanding civilian and would want to be left alone.
If a bad nation I would only be safe in jail if joining a gang.
I not want that.. I also not want to have to shank people that try to rape non gang allogned me all the time.
I'd likelu try to suck up to the guards.. to hope they protect me.. while I am spending all energy tryimg to get out.
each day inside risks my life.
I need to get out.
