cows tongue is tasty
for all my life we had at my parents house till this day as centerpiece of every Christmasdinner, a cows tongue.
it was served cut in slices with made from scratch creamsauce.

on the side the boillion it was boiled in for hours was turned in the most fantastic soup by merely adding the little bits of meat cut off and some vegetables.

The only one who knows how to make this is my mother who learned it from my grandmother and who knows how far it goes backbefore that.

(my mother is aging yet nobody would allow anybody else to bring the tongue but mom at our christmasdinnera even when we now cook als the other dishes)

we have a dinner I partake in tomorrow somewhere where we all are expected to contribute a dish in.. and seeng it as a good practice I decieded to make a tongue for the first time

it was not the easiest dish.. but the result is great! after cooking all day soup, sauce and tongue are done.. tomorrrow only need to reheat and add finishing touches.

feels great to now know the family recepy so it will survive yet another generation:)

even though many people pull a dirty face when you tell them cows tongue even though they never tasted it. perhaps tomorrow a few will change their mind.

Not a lot of people have a chance to taste it, even before being able to make opinion on the taste. Despite the appearence, what I've seen from my hunter friends is that, it is considered a delicacy.

I would not eat a cows tongue. Despite all the steaks and burgers I've eaten, I just don't consider the tongue to be food.

Strangely enough, during the holidays when my mom cooks a turkey, I love the turkey skin. If I think about it too much it seems gross, but when it comes out of the oven golden brown and dripping in juices, the fact is it's the tastiest part of the turkey.
Yes it is!
I think it's best in a taco, at least of all the ways I've had it.
Have you tried pork tongues? I find them to be MUCH tastier, and any dumbazz can prepare them, you basically boil them for an hour and a half, lol. For this reason, I always skip the cow tongue and go for the pork tongues (if both are available). I even prefer pork tongues to actual pork lol.

I always try to eat it when I go to Sendai, in Japan, grilled beef tongues are a local delicacy in the city.

Offal mentality at its finest lol. That is why so much food is wasted in the world.

Cow tongue is actually very beef-like, more so than some other more known parts like the liver.

I have no issues eating most edible/digestible cow's body parts.

Exceptions are the brain - due to the risk of getting mad cow disease - and the guts, the consistency of which I absolutely hate.

I dont eat any organmeat.

but the tongue is a muscle.
same as other meat of the cow.
and ad it is the most used musle of the cow.. it is also the most tender and best tasting part.. softer meat does not excists..

it does cost more and tastes better than filet mignon.

extremely tasty. We seasoned the sauce with Madeira wine and always had potatoes and green peas as a side dish. My mother says she learned the recipe when she was growing up in Sweden. There it is a traditional festive meal

Needs to be very thinly sliced

My mother always cooked the tongue for quite a long time. And after cooking, the skin was peeled off, and the meat was left in the hot broth again. Only then was it sliced
The meat was tender as a filet
