is it just me, or are less places accepting vanilla gift cards now than ever before?

The 2 TF2 trading sites I use don't accept them.

The places I buy gift cards from don't accept them.

Is this finally the end of the prepaid visa gift cards?

I blame the VISA security measure online. I understand it's to protect against credit card fraud, but it ♥♥♥♥♥ over prepaids a lot because they're not connected to a bank.

Gift card fraud.

They'll get a gift card with a stolen/fraudulent card/account and then, since it's pretty scrubbed, go get what they want at Amazon as quickly as they can. If they're smart, they'll get it delivered to a vacant address and keep tabs on the package until it gets there. But, only once - They'll get set up once the crime is uncovered and the cops will be waiting there the next time.

true, but still sucks for us who don't like our credit card numbers floating around on the internet.

I think it's because gift cards are no longer profitable for resellers.

Example
I'm a business owner, so I bought $1000 steam card and try to sell for $1200.
But people are buying directly with steam, so my cards are not selling and I lost $1000.

Like you said there are scams and frauds, people complained, demand refund, or exchange for other items in my store. Not only am I making a loss, there were stress and issues for me to handle, so I'd rather not buy and sell gift cards anymore.

If you don't have a credit card, just apply a debit card and add a fix amount to that account. You spend what you have with debit card, and not extra money with interest rate. You're actually wasting more time and energy with gift cards.

better i spend a little extra effort getting my behind to the grocery store, along the way thinking "hmmm, is this game i want really worth trekking my ass to the grocery store?" than have your credit card or bank account leaked because some jackass didn't upgrade the security.
