Should VALVe start charging monthly participation in steam discussions?
The way it is now pretty much anyone can post whatever they like thus resulting in way too many spam threads. I'm surprised they haven't already done this but it would be good if they made it so you need to pay like 10 bucks a month to participate in steam discussions, something cheap so everyone can get it. This will make steam discussions a better place and those posting spam threads can just migrate to reddit or whatever.

So like, discord nitro?
Unironically steam battle pass sounds fire, would definitely buy.

I just can't imagine that enough people would pay to allow forums to even continue to function.

The forum is a kind of "selling point". If you make it due, people would also demand an objective moeration... That's where the problems begin. The moderation is rarely comprehensible and sometimes even completely nonsensical. Or in short, there will be more hassle and fewer users. Not everyone is a Gabe Newell fan :cta_emo2:

free speach. period.

if anything all moderation save for combatting bots, and posts that contain virusses/malware or criminal intent.. there should be no cencorship at all.

yes there are way to many crappy topics recently.
-quality of posts have gradually dropped.
*instead of a mix of political discussions and the odd forumgame (spoil the wish, defeat the above, etc)
we now have mostly bait and trolling topics made by alt acounts.

it is what bans by reportbutton aka cancelculture by proxy brings.

cancelculture does not create it only destroys.

the fix is not to hammer down stronger it is to return freedom of speach.

we need much more free speech.

No more bans for just being reported.

and get english speaking mods : my latest ban was undone once I finally got an english speaking mod to responce..
but that took quite some pushing trough even had support topics closed had to reopen new ones.
most steam mods on support are from middle eastern/indian based call centers, and just click without reading the post.
if the bot says post contains a forbidden word you get banned as the ones dishing it out have zero ability to put things in context.

with actual competent english speaking mods (volenteers are preferable if they dont want to pay western wages)
-
bans can be given on actual content and should be much less often.. and shorter..
-a ban must be based on the severity of an individual action regardless of past offenses.
*but to make that judgement needs moderators that can read english and put in that effort.

without better "officers of the law" the current bad enviroment stays.
**where good users get 1 month bans for using 1 word that the bot sees as forbidden.. in a totally respectfull postm
while trolls get only warns for outright hatefull talk.. and get replaced by abpther botaccount after another once the bans grow longer.

the result is :
95% of good users are permanenyly banned
as they get 30 day bans with at best 24 hour of posts untill the next post.

a lot of good users will also have given up and left alltogether. if this unjust monthly ban happend 3 times in a row thats what happens.

lets face it : the move to "paid mods" has been a fail.

Not much of a forum if you're the only one on it.

Yes, this moderating company shows what Steam thinks of the 'community' .
No. You would end up with more beggars.

:lunar2020thinkingtiger: nah wouldn't say so. we already pay for games and everything else besides making the account in the first place.

The biggest problem with the development of WoW over the past 20 years is that non-subs cant post on their forum. If former players could say what they think about development and what it would take to win them back the game would be much better today.

it could. but that takes into account that Blizz would listen in the first place. which isn't granted.
when i left after Cataclysm ended just before Pandaria came around (Diablo 3 had launched so it was the main focus at the time), people posted on the forums lots but Blizz didn't really listened from what i can recall from that time.

steam from it's inception robbed users.
-it started as drm added to fysical games, robbing users of many rights.
(the ability to return for refund upto 30 days without time played limit, the right to 2d hand trade games, the right to unrestricted lend out your games)

the savings of this were not passed along, steam charges 30% which is about equal to what the cost of fysical distribution was but without
any of the actual costs involved.
(printing artwork, cdrom, shipping, rent & heating on location, labour..)

and as steam monopolised the market they drove up their cut even when they could do with much less.

users also not profited :
users pay during steam sales on average 15% more than they used to do for fysicaldrm free copy's year round.
outside steam sales prices are on average 130% higher than store prices.

steam also does nothing to preserve the art of gaming :
they allow games to be pulled from the store.
+
they dropped windows xp suppport and now will drop windows 7 and 8 support.
-
it is no secret many older games wont work on windows 10. yet steam clearly does nor care anything at all in keeping legacy titles available or playable.

during covid many cooperations were forced to enact cencorship on alternative visions.
goverments started to hold social sites responsible for what users were posting
-hiring a paid moderation team shields a buisness from that law.
and thats the only reason it was done.
**
the middle east non english callcenters likely were just cheapest option.
and moderation by bot found forbidden word needs less manpower than actual reading posts.
-
a simple matter of shielding steam from possible lawsuits at the cheapest cost.

user satisfaction is of no consequence to them.
unless it noticibly cuts into their profitmargins steam wobt notice us.
and even if their profits go down.. it remains to be seen if they can properly asses why.. many boards are blind and will cut costs further in times of dropping revenue and not invest in the improvements we need, while seeing good times as reason to need not to make any either.

And yet 80% of what you typed is not even Valves fault nor caused by them.

Starting from the Games: Yes. Steam does not own those copyrights or trade markets, if a game is removed, they can't keep it, its like trying to keep art you didn't make nor have the licence to keep.

Then your nonsense of Windows 10 at the start and midway: Ya, we know that, you can scream about them no longer supporting Windows 7 and 8.1 with the many others in the Discussion area.

The COVID censoring was the result of fake medical doctors making fake reports and resulting in 50 deaths in the first few months as a result, many nations went into information control as a result of the fake doctors, not actual issues, hell the fact that the meme of "5G towers shooting Invisible COVID Zombie lasers" is one of them.

Moderation exists everywhere chuckle-nut, where the center is means nothing. That's like me saying a call center in India will only try to steal your information when that's not the truth, many nations host buildings and businesses like that, its just the India call center scam is a freaking meme.

Also besides your eye-sore posting style, what is with the spelling errors mate? Like its Censorship, not Cencorship.
