I don't like that idea. I think it would make publishers and devs even more incentivized to remaster 3 year old games like Naughty Dog is about to do with Last of Us 2. Hooray for $70 recycled games.

All these shows are dumb tbh.

1. Being popular has never made anything good. It can, at times, be a good sign. But more than anything, what it means is that it was marketed effectively.

2. If it's the most popular game of the year, everyone has already heard of it. So you're not even getting introduced to new stuff you might have missed.

3. It's so far removed from any rational motive for gaming in the first place. It's not even a contest of really good players. It's a contest of the people who make the games. It would be like millions of athletes tuning in for a "best stadium" contest. Now, I have no doubt that they do that but still.
