I can't see how apple iphones are worth hundreds of dollars more than their android counter parts. I have a samsung, that does the same stuff as the latest iphones (maybe not some of the latest gimmicks) but still it takes photo's, does internet and it also makes phone calls.
You can buy much cheaper smartphone on lower spec and brand, and you'd get better experience for your money.
That's not the attitude to have. The purchases you make must be financially viable for yourself. If you can buy a iphone cheaper than a android then buy the iphone and vice versa.
I've heard stories from friends switching to iPhone from Android and say they did not like it. Along with I disagree with Apple as a company personally
Plus... if I want a cheaper phone, I can just buy a slightly older and/or refurbished Android.
Not an Apple fan, and an Android user here. But I'm pretty sure what you perceive as "horrible" other companies do just as "horrible" things. Corpos are Corpos, they all make equally crappy things to get what they want.
When it comes to brand loyalty, consumers will usually turn a blind eye to bad practices that company is engaging in. But on another note, if you took every horrible things a company does, you will never buy anything again.
Your totally correct... people in the first world no longer have to worry about life and death situtions like some people do in the 3rd world. We have clean water, food, clothes, money, education, health etc....
So we choice to complain and argue about nonsense such as which gaming platform to purchase games on or how many genders there is etc...
Problem solving is part of human nature, there will always be problems to solve, mo matter what kind of life you lead or which world you come from.
The people that today are worrying about tech gadget problems today, are doing so because their ancestors had to solve much bigger problems for them, they had to sail unknown seas to find a new place to start, they had to invent farming so they wouldn't have to hunt, they had to come up with ways to build towns and cities so life could be a little better for everyone, step by step, these nations solved problems one by one, so that the newer generations cold solve other problems, like discovering what's out in space, how to turn silicon into computer chips. Yes, problems for these people seem rather mundane, all thanks to great people in the past that solved many issues to get to the point where we are today.
The shortcomings and hardships people face in undeveloped countries are their own, most countries struggle to develop today due to exploitation, corruption, warlords, insurrections, poor education and ultimately, poor problem solving. They have the potential, and I believe they will ultimately overcome their struggles, so their new generation will also have the so called "First world problems."
Most people have grandparents where their problems back then was a lot more complicated and difficult than today's generation. And that's how things must be, that's the right way to progress. No reason to guilty trip people in first world countries for having a "first world problems" their ancestors earned, they fought for it.
That is true though, because I guess it be the same way back then too, building a house but say the "first worlds" back then, something to regulate temperature whereas some other places didn't they might've thought the same thing, and so on.
But you do make a good point, we still continue to problem solve just in other ways, and they seem more mundane because we think, that our problems aren't as bad as others situation (and while that could be true, there's also not much we can do about it, at least as of right this moment.)
