Little Devsman has decided he likes Matchbox instead of Hot Wheels
I was a Hot Wheels kid because I got like a hundred of them as hand me downs, so we never bought any and I didn't really care about the brand.

So I was kinda surprised when, at the age of about 4.5, he started picking out the orange-packaged ones. At first it was like "but don't you want one of the good ones?" But we let him do it. And...

I kind of agree, actually. They don't have quite the same weight to them, but they're really detailed and I think they actually perform better on the track.

I started not caring about car toys when i was 6.
Good cause Matchbox are better, well were better when I was a kid, dunno if there's a difference now. :P

Years of scientific testing conducted by myself and my best friend, as children, lends credibility to your claim.

Lighter than "Hot Wheels?" Yes, in general.

Faster on the track? That's possible, too. But, since there are so many models and their designs aren't shared between brands, its very difficult to accurately test. Heavier cars, for instance, could deform portions of a track that are not well-supported, reducing the car's velocity if the deformation is great enough.

More testing is needed. Get on that. :)

There's definitely a difference. The most obvious is that Hot Wheels are sometimes based on sports cars and sometimes just completely original designs, while the Matchbox are like the average cars on the street. His fledgling collection includes a food truck, some boxy 70's car, a hatchback that looks staggeringly like my GT (though it's not identical) and a champagne-colored sedan.

Had both as a kid... although more Matchbox then Hot Wheels because Hot Wheels came later

Surprised and happily so Matchbox is still out there and not bought out by Hot Wheels... :steamhappy:
Either way they'll last a long time as long as they aren't used in a sandbox (the sand clogs up the wheels and is impossible to get out).

Yeah that I know, I meant if there's a difference in the quality.
I vaguely recall owning one of these when I was a kid.

I also definitely had one of those car bed frames, too. I remember that one a lot better.

But my god, it has been so long since the last time I would’ve been interested in toy cars. Like Dracoco said, that was probably when I was 6 or younger. Back when I was living in the UK, when I started 1st and 2nd grade.
I used to get Matchbox cars when I was little, they were great and so durable, I used to fire them around my Smash 'n' Crash race track.

I never cared for Hot Wheels.

They're both owned by Mattel now.
