Why is it politically incorrect to say "happy holidays" in the USA?
So, me being a Mexican from Mexico (lol) I'm struggling to understand why is it wrong for people to wish happy holidays in the USA.

I often see people getting offended for being wished happy holidays. I suppose for a country that big there are people who have different traditions either because of their religion or lack off to say the least, so I think saying happy holidays it's pretty nice because it takes into account everyone and nobody feels left out.

I know it's not only Unitedstatians, we also have a bunch of people here who do the same but they are a tiny voice compared to the USA where even news anchors join into the offended group.

So why is it?:marijaonlooker:

I don't get it either, then again i'm not from USA or anything close.

Someone who wasn't Christian got a Christmas card once and got offended. Now everyone has to walk on broken glass to not mis-religion people so the most neutral thing is happy holidays, which effectively means no specific holiday or religion at all, stripping its emotional investment in the season of giving.

That doesn't make any sense at all, if someone wishing you a happy holiday strips your emotional investment maybe the problem it's on you my dear.

Well then have a holiday will do 😁
My default setting is Merry Christmas...but I ain't against changing it to whatever holiday you specifically celebrate if I'm informed.

It's a really stupid thing to complain about, honestly. Christmas hasn't been a Christian holiday for a while now. It's been more of a cultural thing.

"Merry Christmas" isn't some christian-specific greeting that only god-fearing Christians are allowed to use. It's free for anyone to use, anywhere.

It isn't politically incorrect
We went from a country that mostly celebrates Christmas to a country that still mostly celebrates Christmas but pretend that a lot of it doesn't. Probably 99% of people encountered would be fine with "Merry Christmas" but that 1% is very vocal and obnoxious about it.

So it's really just annoying when it's clear that I celebrate Christmas and it's clear the other person celebrates Christmas then why not just say Merry Christmas? I find if you say it first they'll usually say it back.

Mental issues I am assuming.

So do I, most of my family and irl friends are (or were) christians and it's kind engraved in me to say it that way even when I don't really celebrate it.

Unless I'm talking to a big group of people or by text then I switch to happy holidays or I know someone who celebrates a different holiday then I specify

sorry but unless I see you with a crucifix or something that indicates you are a Christian I won't know you are one, christians comes in all shapes and colors and it's not something you can tell by just looking at someone.

I think pretty much everyone will be ok with Mery Christmas but not with "happy holidays" which seems to be offensive to a kinda big or at least very vocal group of people

You don't have to know I'm Christian, statistically if you run into me in the streets I probably celebrate Christmas.
Really the only other things one celebrate are Hanukkah (jews are a tiny percent of the pop) and Kwanza (fake holiday anyways)

Most people see it as stupid politically-correct garbage because nobody who celebrates either of these really care if you tell them "Merry Christmas." It comes off as corporate-mandated and soulless.

Ahh it's anti-corporation.

Yeah that's not PC, that's just boot strap problem.

If I were to study the Seinfeld series a bit more I'd probably additionally celebrate Festivus.

Why would I wish someone a happy holiday by just running into the streets lmao.
There are 7.6 million Jewish people in the USA, 12 million of USA citizens celebrate Kwanzaa, and 3.45 million Muslims and they don't celebrate Christmas, I'm sorry if happy holidays it's offensive for you but it does no harm.

Edit: the numbers of people I mention are just in the USA
