Self Improvement, do you have to strive to survive?
Generally speaking the world is getting further and further away from the job for life model.

At least in my experiences, and the work I used to do I have little interest in doing now.

Do you find you have to keep building on your skills / keep revising the ones you got to keep your head afloat?
Or are you in a job/role you can kick back?

My 'thing' is keep building IT skills slowly building knowledge base it's all out there to learn for free or a limited budget if you want to be fancy.
I have a strong interest in history so regularly building on that and incorporating that into IT skills.
Martial Arts have taken bit of a back seat but I'll be catching up on my 'style' again.

Eventually I'd like to be getting a regular income from building games as an independent developer.
They won't be to everybody's taste but I know it would have bit of a cult following like all good games do.

Do you have a plan?
Have you achieved that plan?
Are you learning or earning or both?

This really depends on the person, and all the answers will be different.

But as current state of the world, you could live without striving for self improvement, if you consider being a homeless a living.

Nope, not allowed. Straight into the hole for me.

You should strive to improve every day. Even if it's a small thing. It all adds up. Consistency and discipline are important. I'm currently kicking back though. Sometimes you gotta.

not really. but sure would be nice to have dealt better cards in life to be somewhere or be someone. however when it comes down to survival, theres more to do than a job or developing skills. some people refuse to just roll over and die, i'm one of those types.

i've done some distasteful things when i was homeless and i don't regret it because it was all for living another day. had i been a person of strong morals or dignity, i wouldn't have done the things i did to survive. i would of died in some ditch long time ago.
its probably because of my military background that when survival instincts kick in, you do anything to live another day.

if the ww3 ever happens, i might not be super prepared for it but as a survivor i know what to do.
when the matter is life and death i always choose me. i've been a solo player my entire life and i'm not about to risk my playthrough for people i don't even know. in a survival situation theres only player 1 and everyone else is an npc.

i do feel sorry for those people that consider OF or tiktok a real job.
sure you make money but you learn nothing.

so you'd eat other homeless people, if you were given the opportunity to choose between that and death?

assuming this is some sort of post apocalyptic situation, yeah probably.

but in today's world couldn't i just break in a grocery store? grab a sandwich?

i mean if you want to eat your mates, i don't judge but i'd much rather have a sammich.

The film Alive woke me up to what survival can be.

Yeah, you have to find an industry that you like and keep gaining skills/experience. A lot of jobs seem to want experience though because they're too lazy to train new people. If you really want to make it big in this economy, you have to keep switching jobs every few years.

Depends on your environment and motivation. Some do just enough to scrape by and survive, others want to define their craft and make the most of what they do every day.

I see the rich getting richer and more self-entitled
and the poor getting poorer and more miserable

I see no progress being made towards UBI and the last talk I saw online about it was something pathetic like $13,000 a year for the poorest members of society - which is poverty level in the USA. You can't even afford an apartment with that.

The rich seem really gung-ho about replacing their workers with AI and are going full steam ahead on AI development. It should be deeply concerning to everyone that not only is there no safety net and no services or quality of life for the hundreds of millions who will soon find themselves unemployed and completely unemployable, but there is no desire or incentive by anyone in government to make any progress on this issue. It's a non-issue.

Are they just stupid? Or do they not need to make any progress on this because they already have something else planned? Skynet?

"the final solution to the homeless crisis"
Kamiyama 2023 年 11 月 22 日 下午 1:50
It also drives me up a wall how conceited everyone is when I talk about how bad the AI revolution will be.

"AI could never replace me, I'm too smart"
"AI could never replace me, I'm too talented and skilled with my hands"
"AI could never replace me, I'm a lawyer and AI just doesn't understand law"
"AI could never replace me, I'm a teacher and AI could never teach humans"
"AI could never replace me, I use my head and create original works using human creativity"

AI can replace literally every single one of you. The smartest, the most talented, the most creative, the strongest, the fastest, the most "original"

AI can replace every single one of you.

In the future, there will be rich people, the legions of AI who serve them, and 7 billion poor people will be either dead or enslaved.

That's the future we seem absolutely determined to build for ourselves.

I found the things I became interested in no one else cared about until I got bored with it and then it was the next big thing... then got tired of being ahead of my time.

not no1 is happy with "good enough" it seems.

Skills are always valuable but in this current economy, I've found that investment works better finacially.

Work smart, not hard. :hp_nikki:
