What would you consider the best Stealth Game and why?
I'm looking for stealth games that might appear interesting and get a discussion about stealth games going, is there a stealth game you are sure is the best you've played or at least very good and why?

The one where you kill everyone

Metal Gear saga. All of it.

People who lived through the cold war know the insanity was only slightly less than the stuff Kojima came up with.
Even the NES?

The port of the original, no. Snake's Revenge... maybe.

Like putting on a cardboard box and "sneaking" past guards like that? :P
Don't forget the cigarettes which you used to....ummmmm....

Hold on, I'll think of it.
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. I’ve yet to play another pure stealth game that makes you feel like a true assassin in the shadows. Great stealth with improvements to the core systems from previous games. Super fun missions. The bank and Japanese estate are absolute bangers. Story is fine. And freakin Sam Fishers voice is 10/10.

Sounds like Hitman... There will be no alerts when there is noone left to be a witness.

I'm surprised noone mentioned Pay Day 2, Batman nor Assassin's Creed.

Dishonored and Death Loop would be high on my list too.

Edit: Styx is a good stealth game and might be free on GOG currently I believe (I didn't check as I have both games in library already).

As a long time Payday 2 fan with quite a few hours with it. The stealth barely works and is held together with duct tape. Probably why it's not mentioned a lot.

Don't confuse that with it being unenjoyable. Some people DO enjoy it. But, you do need to be able to deal with some crazy quirks.

Chaos Theory added a knife. That tosses out the stealth characteristics of the game as killing someone with a knife is not easy and is definitely noisy.

The first 2 Splinter Cells are fine. After that, it lost its way.

If you want a FPS, Ground Branch. If you don't take your time, your toast. Think Rainbow Six (made by RSE) and Ghost Recon (again by RSE) combined. And, it is on sale right now.
The Batman Arkham games are pretty fun to play stealthily. Also, Assassin's Creed Origins is pretty fun to play in stealth. You can get that ability that slows down and guides your arrows.
I really enjoyed Ghost of a Tale. Not the best sneaking, but it was balanced well with disguises and cuteness.

MGS Series, especially 3.
Because story and gameplay. Also gimmick conversation in the radio.
