Majority of players oustide japan are based on real players. Rummenigge of germany, tony Schumacher of Germany, maradona of argentina, Cruyff of the dutch, maldini of italy even rosi and roberto baggio

Also i don´t think it´s true, as there are like 3 other goalkeepers between Schuhmacher and Kahn. Schuhmacher is 80´s and Kahn is late 90´s. Rummenigge is also 80´s - he´s also president of Bayern Munich - or was it. Schuhmacher is Cologne, and Kahn is also Munich.

And Schuhmacher, besides being a great goalkeeper, is also known as the dentist of Sevilla, because some French player lost some teeth, and yes, perhaps some bones were broken, too. But that were the 80´s and it was not a foul - back then, when people had a good reason to fall over in football...

I didn't recognize the name Oliver and Beji so I plugged it into a search engine. Turns out that it's a Spanish localized title for Captain Tsubasa.

I never actually watched it but I think a bunch of people have heard about Captain Tsubasa before. It's that one soccer anime.

Touhou has unofficial cross-overs with everything so there's even a Touhou Soccer game[en.touhouwiki.net] that tries to emulate the style of crazy over the top kicks they do on the Capt. Tsubasa show, based on the gameplay of the Super Famicom Captain Tsubasa games.

I also recollect seeing a few videos of Japanese players trying to replicate the shots as best as can be done in real life, like this one. There are more but it's kinda tricky to search for Japanese videos in youtube when you don't know Japanese and you didn't bookmark them. XP
