Disney and Pixar are known to develop new technologies in their films. Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. had new software designed to make them. So they don't just sell stories, they also sell their advances in technology.

you can have great artist make magic out of antiquated technologies and animation techniques the same way you can have those same artist fail at making anything entertaining out of the newest piece of tech.

technology alone don't drive stories , artist are what does it , they're the souls of the stories you see in movies , games and cartoons.

I agree, but my point was that the technology used in these movies was invented or changed in order to make the movie. If they weren't also selling their advances in technology, then this would be a greater cost with limited benefit.
