Does brushing your tongue make you smelly?
I'm no doctor or dentist. I've had this theory that brushing the tongue actually worsens the breathe, that is to say over time, perhaps even the entire system from mouth to GI tract.
I know bacteria is important, but is this why and is the theory sound?

How are you cleaning? Because you will have bacteria grow back from locations like tonsils.
You can clean your tongue, and back of mouth with mouth washes. There are oil based ones instead of alcohol.
The Listerine actually helped break down covid. So if you feel maybe you inhaled something bad, a quick rinse with a decent mouth wash can help.

I'm plainly going to say no, it doesn't make your breath smelly for brushing. Brushing the tongue would act as a scrub in which cleans the tongue much like hands, teeth, or any other part of your body.

Note: Take caution when reading medical thread topics and advice. :hp_nikki:

you know that bad taste you get sometimes when waking up? that crap build up on your tongue is what causes it when the bacteria feasts the last time you ate and it doesn't clean up after itself, so you end up swallowing it in saliva.

go over it with a toothbrush and a little paste then some mouthwash to kill off the remaining bad crap near the back of your tongue. sometimes you have an imbalance in the type of bacteria's you have in your mouth, sometimes the bad bacteria finds away to win and starts spreading in your mouth, around your teeth, on your tongue, that's why it's important to brush, floss and use mouthwash the start of the day and end of the day to keep a healthy mouth all round.

Probably not but even if it does, it doesn't matter. Everyone is smelly in the long term, the short term is what matters. That is the purpose of daily ablutions.
TIL a new word. I may even utter it, though it is fearful to do so.
