The original Y2K bug was due to programs might not interpret '00' as the year 2000, but rather '1900'. To save memory space, most just used two digitals for the year, not taking into consideration a generation later it would rolls over.

It was a real existing bug, in which multiple programs and even some motherboard bios updates where required. It was just blown out of proportion when it came down to the impact and fixes required, most of which was done ahead of time.

They actually seemed like people procrastinated it. Then got together and got it done in time.

No individual keeps that much money sitting stagnant in a bank account. Especially when it's only insured up to $500k.

why 1901? If you are talking about Unix then it would be 1970 but it's signed so you never really know what would happen, most likely it would just crash the main program
