reduced to atoms
accounts get wiped probably and then deleted altogether as the service shutters. i personally can't wait for that day to happen. with the way Epic have been the last few years and EOS infecting games forcing you to accept epic terms and conditions making Valve's pointless, i just as be happy to see the other side of it and gearbox that likes brown nosing will have to pull it out of the homeworld series. the moment that happens, i can look at that series again.
more likely then not you'l lose access to the games.

the case where a store allow you to redeem your games on another platform when it's close are rare , bethesda did it when they closed down their own store but don't expect it to be the norm.

I don't even know of any Epic games worth playing, so...
You learn the hard way which games have a DRM which stops you playing the game after the store closes :steamdeadpan:

Not going to happen as you explicitly gave your consent to losing access upon account termination when signing up for an account.

https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/eula
9. Termination
Without limiting any other rights of Epic, this Agreement will terminate automatically without notice if you fail to comply with any of its terms and conditions. You may also terminate this Agreement by deleting all copies of the Software. Upon any termination, the License will automatically terminate, you may no longer exercise any of the rights granted to you by the License, and you must destroy all copies of the Software in your possession.

Except as expressly stated otherwise herein or to the extent required by law, all payments and fees are non-refundable under all circumstances, regardless of whether or not this Agreement has been terminated.

The only truly safe stores whose games survive a storefront sunset are GOG and itch.io (for downloadable titles).

They sadly pay for exclusives. Alan wake remastered, alan wake 2, dead island 2, I'm sure there's others. Despicable? Yes, but those are good games by good studios and it would suck if they ceased to exist.

To answer op, these other stores will likely go the way of bethesda's games launcher, all your purchases will get transferred to steam. In epic's case maybe not, but you have to remember that at the end of the day games using their engine are still being sold on steam, I'm sure they wouldn't want to sour that relationship, especially after a defeat.
Probably lose all. I think they should also include something in the wall of agreement to prevent lawsuit.
I could kind of see Tim Sweeney just decide to let peoples migrate their epic library toward gog if the epic store closed down, their strategy since epic has a store been to hinder steam and take games away from it.

Tim sweeney also seem to want to maintain a "clean" public image.

You should make a copy of what you have purchased, just in case.

a game wont launch without logging in online

Alan Wake 2 seems like a thing.
I don't know what will happen to your purchased games in Epic if it shuts down. But what i DO know is:

Tencent wants to buy the rights to Unreal Engine. That's why they are interested so much in EpicGames and slowly increased their stake in Epic to %48 over the years.

Typical Classic C****nist C*****e Expansionist agenda. You become very happy when you see their smiles upon starting a fresh business partnership,

only to be owned by your early "partners" 20+ years later. Sometimes even closer.

When the service is gone, it means the EULA is also gone. Because of that, you can make them work yourself without violating the rules.

If you asked how to make your games work without the launcher, just go googling it. It isn't piracy if you had paid.
