ESRB: Is it time to retire the Ao rating?

Well, no. It's time to retire the ESRB or at least force the ESRB to stop using final ratings and start just listing details. If they MUST to avoid political censorship from on-high then at least get rid of the moralizing.

Of course since all of this comes from political censorship born of not enforcing the child's entertainment be supervised by the parents but instead forcing everyone else to be terrified of the existence of children, it's not going away anytime soon. At this point simply petitioning stores to ignore the ratings and let us self-segregate and doing buisiness with those places that do just that should be the focus

you do know several countries make it a crime to sell adult only rated games right? As so several U.S. states. I'd petition that but I don't live in those states and populace either doesn't care about it or have bigger ♥♥♥♥ to worry about

Not really. The fact that there are few A.O. games is kind of irrelevant to its purpose. The A.O. rating has purpose in allowing the E.S.R.B. to delimit what shouldn't be done if you want your games to be sold at Walmart or Gamestop.

Also, the only reason there are so few A.O. games is because an E.S.R.B. rating isn't mandatory. Porn games just don't seek an E.S.R.B. rating because they aren't really sold at venues where they'd need one and their content is obvious to parents even without the marker.

I dunno but I love the ESRB.

None of the user or critical reviews told me about the penis monster in Persona 5 but ESRB did.

AO rating is strictly designed for adult games which GTA briefly got branded during their whole Hot Coffee nonsense a few years back. Fun fact when the change was ordered by Federal regulations, Rockstar complied and changed it, only for a radical Karen cancel culture group to form and blame Rockstars other game, Bully, as a tribute to school mass murders and attempted to storm their office with demands. Rockstars CEO at that time took the paper and read it before posting it online and laughing at the groups faces as they were removed from the building by both security and police.

The ESRB is an industry "self-regulation" group. It's literally offenders telling consumer that they didn't offend because they're the one's that make the rules about offenses...

The ESRB has no real legitimacy to be concerned about. The only reason it exists is because the Industry is afraid that if they don't undertake the "feel good" measure of "self-regulation" that the US Government will step in and curbstomp their video-game sales by slapping big fat US Government Warning Stickers on it, ala "The Surgeon General Has Determined That This Game Will Rot Your Brain."

Paying attention to what the ESRB has to say about anything has long since been a futile effort - Just don't. If you want to find out why they rate or do anything, the answer will always be "money."
