Because the US had a very bad drunk driving problem among 18-21.
Because the human organs are still developing 18-21.
"Teens get drunk twice as fast as adults, but have more trouble knowing when to stop. Teens naturally overdo it and binge more often than adults. Enforcing the legal drinking age of 21 reduces traffic crashes protects young people's maturing brains, and keeps young people safer overall." -Mothers against drunk driving
I don't drink and am over 21 but as someone without a licence this sounds like a lose-lose. In exchange for not being able to drink until 21 I get to have more places built into roads then otherwise which are illegal for me to use. Not to mention all the noise pollution, CO2, actual pollution, and induced demand all as a "reward" for my State keeping the drinking age at 21.
Roads bad?

boomers (meaning people born between 1945 and 1956
(years can vary.. it's the end of ww2 to the end of rationiong /stamps in european nations..)
are actually quite rational..
it's the recent generation..with their woke/lgbtq/trans/ etc nonsense that has gone totally bonkers..
alcohol is NOT extremely bad.
-> to a human brain (in dead braincells) 1 joint does about as much damage as 10 times comadrinking (Drinking so much alcohol you go out)
-> in addiction rating (fysical adiction) alcohol has hardly any.. it does not release hormons like the opiod harddrugs...
alcohol naturally excists in small amounts in plenty of food items.. and your body is used to handle it..
ofcourse LARGE dosis of alchol do damage..
but upto halve a glass of wine a day it's actually healthy for you.
(due fermented drinks also producing healthy stuff and the mild damage to your liver by very small amounts of alchol, forces it to rejuvenate.. ofcourse the keyword is here very small amounts...)
-> distilling removes these healthy stuff.. so distilled has a negative effect on the health earlier.
keep your alchol consumptioon below 2 glasses in any 24 hour time.. and below 3 glasses in any 168 (7 day) window of time.. and you won't have any negative effects.
**the defenition for being an alcholic is : if you drink more than 2 glasses in 24 hour, or consume any alchol more than 2 days in a week.
don't be an alcoholic and you be fine..
****
there is NO fysical adiction in alchol.. sure it is abused.. but so can most food stuff...
weed does damage even from the first little bit
so do all the other drugs.
and they permanently mess up your brain chemistry drom the first dose..
alchol does not damage the brain structure.. it CAN kill of braincells.. if you get intoxicated or druk... and killing off enough that ofcourse causes issues..
but drugs weed, opiods.. and such.. alter the connections between neurons.. as such even when drugs effect haas wore off your brain makeup has been altered forever.
drugs alter the wiring of your brain AND kill braincells.. always.
alchol CAN kill braincells.. but does not haave to if consumed moderately, and never alters the wiring.
alchol on a developing brain.. does more damage.. but again.. in proportion.
feutus is very small.. as such even very little alchol is a lot for them.. hence no alchol in pregnancy..
-> you can see unborn baby go into a spasm attack.. when the pregnant woman drinks simply 1 glass..
but again AMOUNTS matter..
if you deny kids till 12 any alchol.
and from 13yo.. you will allow them perhaps 2 glasses of very low (0.5-2%) alchol.. like low alchol beer, or cidar, or champagne.. just occationally like at christmas, easter, new years eve, or at weddings.. 1 small glass.. and never outside those settings.
that won't mess them up..
and as they grow older.. say 15 or 16.. alowing them once or twice a year to have a "real" beer aka one with 4.5% alchol.. or a small glass of wine with 10% still only at special days... and only 1 glass..
that still won't harm them..
what I would keep far away from them.. is all those sweet mixdrinks where you don't taste the alchol in.. and liqor at a whole I would limit to 18yo +
at 18yo+ I would be ok with people drinking all things including 60% licors..
but I would just demand people stayed always at a promilage low enough to be allowed to drive..
raising the drinking age.. aint going to suddenly turn abusers into responsible drinkers..
but those sweet mixdrinks we should perhaps bar from the market.
and perhaps we should monitor how much people buy...
if you go out to buy a box of 20 bottles of beer each weekend.. I'd say you should be denied to buy that much... as those are not normal amounts to consume each week even as adult.
It's not in any way comparable to posting intimate pictures which is just entertainment.
Cheers! I'll drink to that
