Game meat
Hey fellow hunters! I've just landed my first bear. I've always heard that bear meat has a similar taste to venison, and now I'm curious to try it out. I got a healthy-looking male brown bear, and I'm thinking of experimenting with the meat. Maybe even try it raw? Does anyone have any tips or recipes for the best way to enjoy bear meat? Looking forward to your suggestions!

I always wanted to try bear. I don't eat much meat,
I'd imagine something with berries.
I hear most people have a hard time making bear tasty,

You'd damn well better use the entire carcass, you monster.

No waste!

I'd never touch bear meat given how riddled with parasites bears tend to be.

Yeah, seriously... wild game should never be eaten raw...

maybe make Pemmican out of it.
It's like Native American version of jerky.
If you can't get enough berries maybe add cane sugar or honey to sweeten it.

Depending what you put in it, it can store for years.

Oh, I just noticed he said he wanted to try it raw, that's even more disgusting. Usually when you gut a bear you can find worms crawling inside them. Those eggs are usually in the bloodstream meaning, it's in the meat. Eating that raw WILL give you worms too. It's how the bears get them in the first place. Being as high up the food chain as they are, they have an extremely high rate of carrying them.

Jerky made from predatory animals is how most cases of trichinosis happen.

You'll have to cure it first in some way. Maybe an acid or base to soak the meat. And cook it to over 180 degrees. Lots of people don't cook their steak thoroughly

This is why so much easier to be vegetarian ^_^

Yikes. This thread is a pretty good ad for veganism.

Bear meat depends on whether it was a eating garbage or not. Dumpster bears taste like dumpsters.

Bear when it's not eating trash is pretty good though when prepared correctly. I like it a lot more than venison.

EDIT:

Never eat wild game meat under-cooked at all. 165F+ for everything. Otherwise you're asking for illness/parasites.
