It's not uncommon to see 3-6 ad breaks during a 20 minute video. Each ad taking up (at least) 30 seconds to 2 minutes. With every break seeing 2 ads. At minimum, that's 3-24 minutes of ads.
On average, that makes it as bad as network broadcast television. A modern episode of 'Jeopardy' will have around 11 minutes of ads. In a 30-minute time-slot... that's only 19 minutes of content.
Hour-long shows in the 1960's had only 2-3 minutes of commercials. YouTube has pre-roll ads, post-roll ads, mid-roll ads, and there's an in-video sponsor. All so I can watch a short video of a guy making fun of someone.
All you can do these days is block ads or turn it off.
Funny that Youtube can't convince people to stop using adblock so they added this feature called "1080p Premium" for a little bit more bit rate. the 1080p Normal now looks like 780p.
youtube 1 minute of ads sometimes for 10 minute video so ads got shorter so you cant get up
You spelled "Off Topic" wrong. :D
But I just want to reiterate that Firefox is NOT a "privacy browser" either. They still use something called "Firefox Glean" that records literally EVERYTHING you do on Firefox. Everytime you close Firefox, Not only does it send 112 requests when you first run it, but it also sends a giant request containing all information about the state of your browser EVERY TIME YOU CLOSE IT.
Maybe that's part of the reason why Firefox uses an excessive amount of RAM...
In reality, Firefox is basically the controlled opposition of the browser world. They only exist so Google and pretend not to have a monopoly on browsing (although I'm sure eventually Chrome will completely take over all browsing)
But eh, what can be done. All browsers are privacy nightmares. There really aren't any super private ones out there. The best is probably Pale Moon since it doesn't use Google OR Firefox's engine but usage is rough in other ways.
Check out the original 'Mission Impossible' series, and the original 'Star Trek' series. Both made in the 1960's. Most episodes are 56-58 minutes. (You might find some that are 52-54, but any less is rare. At least in these shows.)
They will only break their site if they made some of that stuff hard dependencies.
I think it's fine if everyone uses ublock. I'd encourage it.
I don't really use it myself because I too lazy to install it. But everyone really should.
noscript also is a good idea.
yes, age restricted videos is a method of soft censorship. Also, there is lots of ways the can censor people. Because now you can't watch age restricted youtube from outside youtube. youtube-dl won't work on age restricted videos now. Then you need an account to view it.
