My love/hate relationship with pinball
It's extremely fun to play

Until twenty-two seconds in when the ball goes perfectly into that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ zone directly between the flippers

Holy goodness, there *were* two more!
Why didn't Microsoft include the pirate table?
Hover! was always more fun than Space Cadet.

Microsoft did a browser-based reboot, but it's nothing like the original. Someone needs to do a really faithful HD remake of Hover!

To be honest, chess is just better. With some quality wooden set, and a good bud to play with, it can be very satisfying and entertaining. I prefer late afternoon during Fall time, with only Sun as light source. It adds to the authenticity of a good chess match. :thunder_heart:
Sadly there seem to be no chess themed pinball games(video or cabinet).
A side twist is that it could be players on opposite sides of the cabinet playing against eachother.

Or maybe one giant pinball table where the ball goes back and forth to both sides. Would have to throw like 10 balls in there to make it interesting.

If I had the money to collect pinball machines I would buy as many as I could. I guess I would open a museum for the public if possible, that would be cool.
It makes no sense how expensive they are. I looked into buying one not long ago. Cheapest I could find was $20k.

Yep. And they break constantly so you gotta hire a full time technician basically if you wanted to do something large scale.

I never liked pinball but many that play it are interesting. I remember the first time I saw people play it, it looked like they were "hip thrusting" the machine but it took me a second look that I realised that we're trying to tilt the ball.

...must be a good hip workout :hp_kyanna:

The problem I have with chess is the problem I have with every other multiplayer game: losing every single time is just no fun at all.
Just a silly story. I was an introvert and had few friends as a kid. We lived out in "the sticks" so there were no other kids to play with. I saw a pinball machine at a gas station. Other kids were playing it. I put in my quarter but the machine was too close to the next one. Hard to put my finger on the button. So I moved it over. Oops. Tilt. Had no idea what happened. I heard one of the other kids say "he moved the whole machine". It was a while before I learned that you are supposed to bump it.
I never was that interested in pinball. My reactions are too slow. Always were.
I can sympathize with the ball bouncing into the area you have no control over, but 22 seconds Devsman? It doesn't seem all that common to me. Maybe you're activating the flippers too soon? You kinda need to bank the ball by holding the flipper in place, then letting it roll down far enough so that you can get good leverage and take aim at where you're going.

Space Cadet pinball for Windows was kickass.
This guy gets it.

Space Cadet Pinball was good for a free windows pack-in game. However, I wouldn't call it kickass. Maybe that's just 'cause I played other virtual pinball games first though. I prefer Kirby's Pinball Land and Crytal Caliburn[tvtropes.org]. I really loved me some Crystal Caliburn.

The best pinball physics I experienced in a video game aren't even from a pinball game though. It's how Sonic controls in Casino Night Zone 2. I wanted to play Sonic Spinball so bad because of that, but there was some confusion over which version of the game to get. It's just as well though. Sonic Spinball is kinda sorta bad, and represents a huge waste of effort to create a whole new engine for a game that does what it set out to do worse than the Sonic 2 engine.

Oh you mean that boring minigame that every single school library computer had? :steambored:

Well first, Space Cadet Pinball was just simply included with default installations of Windows XP, so yeah, but as I mentioned before, it wasn't really the best virtual pinball.

I'm actually feeling kinda bad for you if Space Cadet Pinball is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Pinball. We know you Candy. You're the Pokemaniac of the form, and back in the day, there were actually some fairly well regarded Pokemon pinball video games. Pokemon Pinball for the Gameboy Color, and that was successful enough that it got a sequel Pokemon Pinball Ruby & Sapphire for the Gameboy Advance.

They were even going to make one for the Nintendo D.S. too but it was canceled. Did you know gaming has an interesting video on that. After the cancellation of Pokemon Pinball D.S. the spinoff series just kinda fizzled out of existence altogether.

Of course, even the best virtual pinball isn't a substitute for a real table. It's kinda like comparing real football to Madden or Ping-Pong to just regular ol' Pong. Real pinball a very sensational experience with all of the blinking lights, sound effects and rolling of the steel marble.

Themeing can also be important, and I have somewhat of a difficult time believing your curiosity wouldn't be piqued if you came across a pinball table that looked like this, if not only because you'd catch a glance of the cute lil' Espeon plunger. XP

The vibrant colors of Pokemon lend themselves well to those flashing lights, and those gameboy derived sound effects sound as if they could've been designed for pinball.

Unfortunately, despite how fitting the vibrant colors of pokemon suit pinball, I don't think there was ever a real full sized pokemon themed pinball machine. The closest thing there was to it was a Tiger Electronics tabletop pinball machine called Pokemon Thundershock Challenge[www.pinterest.com]. Tabletop pinball isn't normally as good as a full sized table either though, mainly due to the absence of the various mechanisms, most especially including the ramps.
The best thing about full size pinball is if you hit the handles harder you get more force on the ball.
So this was a thing I missed somehow...
Its not right, but somehow it seems as it was always meant to be.

That's almost as bad as federation force.

This reminded me I was going to make a pinball machine where that did not happen and it was purely skill and fun based.

- never got round to it.

The Metroid games that people lost their poopoo over all kinda run together at this point (lol), so I don't remember if this was the one they announced at around the same time as Federation Force or if that was some sort of soccer game or something. All I remember clearly is being slightly put out by the way that after a bajillion years since the last Metroid game, they were releasing a bunch of weird quirky titles instead of a new major installment with Samus and stuff. Not nearly as upset as the rest of the Internet, though. It was actually almost worth it to read the delicious rage of the Internet.

I actually do think a Metroid virtual pinball game could be fun... but at the same time I just don't think this is really the right property to get Mario-ized with quirky installments and party games and such. Prime Hunters was pushing it already with its gimmick controls and focus on multiplayer, and that was fairly conventional compared to Metroid Pinball, Metroid Kart, Metroid Soccer, Metroid Party, etc.
