What do you call woke?

I see it mentioned so often and it seems to vary considerably.
GB News is fun to watch when they go on about it, they did have a section called Woke Watch which was about stupidity being allowed to run riot and they were moaning about it.
And on the other hand GB News is fun to watch because some of their own views are pretty stupid too. And some just make a lot of sense.

Anyway, What do you call woke and do you think it is a good idea?

Another in long list of co-opted words meant to stop movements and demonize people. Just like the "Just Stop Oil" people. Its middle to upper class college educated people taking popular movements and making them distasteful to the public. They get to feel better than others while they feed off popular ideas like equality and environmental protections.

Woke is nothing more than the redefining of an existing word to apply to whinny rich kids with half-baked understanding of ideas on colleges. It basically means a highly educated person that doesn't know why they feel like they do but they know they feel that way.

The only people these rich kids help is their feelings and major corporations they pretend to be against.

Well yeah, he was definitely a hypocrite. He was a loan shark basically, but Cassius Dio is the only source that ties him to Boudica's debt... and it's very much debated. The problem with many Roman historians is they were writing mainly for an audience that wanted entertaining, and those who emerged after the Silver Age (like Suetonius and Dio) are known for being over-sensational. Dio was also born a century after Seneca's death which further complicates the story because he never knew him and there is no supporting evidence.

I usually think of Catus Decianus when Boudica's revolt comes up. He definitely caused the ♥♥♥♥ to hit the fan with his debt collections in Blighty.

Details? Shades of grey? No room for any of that. Everything is automatically black and white now. If we start having nuanced discussions, we might accidentally agree on some points, and the powers that be can't have that. Mary Beard's SPQR is great if you're looking for a refresher with a single book. It covers the period from the estimated founding of Rome to the fall of Caracalla. Approx. 1,000 years of history. Problem is... quite a few people on social media decided it was woke. 😅
